Did anyone else have the unique situation with your OSDD/DID where your parent(s) were spiritual, and just assumed that the 'imaginary friends' you were talking to (which were actually your other parts/alters) were ghosts or spirits? Cause we have a very specific memory of what we didn't know was fusion happening when we were a kid. One minute he was there and the next he wasn't, and it terrified us & we broke down and cried because 'he's not here anymore, I can't feel him, he's gone!' and our mom was actually really sweet and comforting about it.
Albeit, it wasn't totally correct, cause neither of us knew what was actually happening or why, but having her tell me "you must have helped him get the closure he needed to cross over to the other side, that's a good thing, honey. Just because you can't feel him anymore doesn't mean he's gone forever. He's just in a better place now." And as an adult I kinda still carry that mentality about fusion? Unintentionally? Because it's true, just cause you can't sense them anymore doesn't mean they're gone forever. They're still with you, and if fusion happens naturally from your brain healing or processing trauma, then yeah, I guess the metaphor of their 'unfinished business' being complete could apply, too.
I think we're just grateful that our mom always took the situation seriously, despite her not quite understanding what was actually going on or happening. She just saw how it was affecting us and even if it didn't make sense to her, she was open enough to offer a positive outlook in order to comfort us.
