I feel like I should treat the romantics among my followers to a lil’ something.
Have an excerpt from the One Siren’s Soul AU titled Violet Lightning, in which our main character Celestine has an adult appearance and a British accent, but aside from that, is much the same as in canon.
That sameness includes her inability to understand feelings of ~looooOOOoove~. Otherwise known as a giant heckin’ crush.
@abalonetea requested (kinda? you said you were interested so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) some facts about Runi, and him being one of my fave childs, here’s a little mini rant on him!
First off, Runi may be his actual name, but it’s not the name he goes by in Violet Lightning or the One Siren’s Soul series until halfway through book two! The only reason I’m using this name to refer to him is because he’s a big spoiler-filled character. ^^’
Runi is the guardian of Light’s Glow, the Ascendant Artifact left by the first Light siren! This means, even if Runi’s base magic is a different element, he can also use (extremely powerful) Light magic!
He likes going invisible to avoid his problems.
This is just a general fun fact, but! Particularly powerful magic has a strong scent that, though mostly indistinguishable to humans, is easily picked up by some animals. LIKE DOGS. Dogs are really on edge around Runi due to this, aaaand as a consequence, Runi is Terrified Of Dogs.
Actually, he’s scared of most animals.
Actually actually, he’s scared of most people, too.
Runi has severe anxiety. Poor child. :c
He acts so nervous all the time that no one can possibly tell when he’s actually hiding something because he almost always looks guilty. ^^’
Due to the Light magic Runi uses, his eyes change colour depending on his mood! Mood ring eyes~
He has an epic, magical flowy cloak but he almost never gets to wear it in story because he’s constantly having to disguise himself. ^^’
Runi is genderfluid but rarely takes on a feminine-presenting appearance. He tends to far prefer a masculine one, but will on occasion present more androgynously.
Runi was best friends with one of the main cast before they forgot he existed. But he still remembers.
ANYWAYS I LOVE THIS CHILD HE IS AMAZING. Have an excerpt because I can~
"Can... can you understand me? I want... I want to help you." My attention shot back to him at his words. He glanced nervously back at the doorway to the hall--presumably where he had left Acharya behind. "To, to escape."
His eyes. Brilliant, glowing orange. No pupils, no irises, no sclera. Just... vivid orange. I shivered.
«He's a witch, then...» I mused to myself.
"U-um... Not. Not technically." I froze.
«You can understand me!?»
He flinched at the kree that left my mouth. I hadn't been able to speak English ever since being stuck in this form. But... he could understand siren!?
"Shh--shhhh, Rose doesn't know I'm here," [Runi] warned, pushing his hands towards me in a message to calm down. "But, but yes. I can explain later--right now, I need a way to get you out of here.”
And I guess another fun fact!
Runi can understand siren~
Storyteller Saturday — In a modern setting, what would the cast of OSS’s occupation be? What would your oc’s daemons be (if you’re not sure what they are, daemons are the animal manifestation of your soul)?
Happy STS! I’ve actually answered the first question before, you can find that here! But that was quite a while ago, and I’m thinking there’s some changes in store to make it more fitting~
Celestine would still definitely be some sort of computer engineer or mechanical engineer. Maybe an experimental engineer. Some kind of engineer, and preferably a career where he gets the ability to manipulate physical parts with his hands to make new things~
Colin would likely be a professional fiddler! That still stands. ^^
Dione could be so many things holy stars. Uhhhh, environmental sciences still fits her, definitely. Marine biology would also be extremely accurate. But there’s rumours going around that she… might have connections to a governmental agency…
Phoenix would be… A HECKIN’ PYROTECHNICIAN, HOW DID I NOT THINK OF THAT EARLIER. HECK. Despite her love of cooking, I don’t think she could ever stand the food industry, since she bakes and cooks as a loved hobby rather than through a manner that would work in a fast paced career.
And daemons!!! Gosh I love His Dark Materials, and the mythology that they stem from! Let me rant about this under the cut~
Storyteller Saturday: Your Oc is at the grocery store, what are they buying? Who do they run into that they want to see? Who do they not want to see?
[Quill’s going through the old STS asks stacked up in their inbox—I’m sorry for getting to this so late! ^^’]
MODERN AU TIME
Celestine would rather not see anyone thank you very much. They probably go in the late evening when almost absolutely no one is there specifically to avoid people, doesn’t speak to the cashier at all, and probably hacked the camera and alarm system so they could walk out with a bunch of... uh.... “borrowed” things underneath their hoodie without any issues. Most of what they’d be taking, aside from food and stuff, would probably be computer parts of more expensive shiny items that they could pawn off for more money. (Or could use in their magic.)
Dione is much the same in that she doesn’t want to see anyone, though hers is more so due to the fact that she might very well be a wanted criminal as well as her social anxiety. Running into anyone who wants to talk would leave her probably having a nervous breakdown, and so she just... very quickly goes in to get her regular groceries and gets out. If we’re playing this so she still doesn’t need to eat or anything, she still probably still needs to go to the store to stock up on things for her magic, or plants and books and things.
Colin gets far too distracted by the bright lights and noise and too many colours and things that he completely forgets half of the things he went in to buy, and ends up rushing on out of there before someone who he got on the bad side of after one of his clumsy mess-ups sees him. If he doesn’t see someone like that, then he’d somehow make friends with the cashier out of only a few minutes of interaction.
Phoenix does pretty good about staying organized, getting everything she needs. Probably just your average groceries, plus tons of baking supplies, though she would confuse the people at the store after being a regular for a while and they start to recognize she always has matches in her cart. She talks to pretty much everyone who isn’t bothered by it, and she’s that sort of person who can find someone she knows everywhere, but she’s okay about not losing track of time. There’s not really many people she wouldn’t mind running into, except for... well. Her parents. Dunno how that would happen, though, since they live in an entirely different part of the world than her.
I enjoy how much this ask made me think, thank you for it! ^u^
Hello and happy Storyteller Saturday! Do you have any noncanon alternate universes, endings, or situations for any of your characters or for your WIP?
Happy Storyteller Saturday!! This is a lovely question.
I DO INDEED. Quill likes distracting themself from actually writing canon too much. First of all, One Siren’s Soul was originally the AU! It was a pirate AU using my SU fan characters. And then it turned into an original story! So there’s that whole shebang.
But of OSS itself? There’s the “They kidnapped the wrong sister” AU. Which I can’t really talk about without spoiling everything but you know. There’s also a modern spy-ish AU of it, which could actually be canon because so many of my characters are secretly heckin’ immortal. There’s also sort of a fallen angel AU I have in the works, but I haven’t actually written anything for it.
I also just... really love playing with back in time situations? Where some magical anomaly drops a bunch of characters into their respective pasts (or the past of another character o-o) and they have to try and figure out how to get back while meeting their old selves and not flubbing up time.
Aka Quill loves playing around with noncanon things because I am a nerd who makes AU works of their own story.
Thank you for the ask!
Good day or evening! STS time! If you take your characters our modern time how they would react? Who would enjoy this time and who would hate? Have a nice day!
Hello hello, and happy Storyteller Saturday!
I actually have an AU for this! And what's even better is that part of it might even be canon, since some of my characters are effectively immortal! But if we're going straight from the early 1700s to modern times, well, that would be quite a bit more of a shock.
First of all, Celestine would be heckin' over-powered. I can't explain because spoilers, but let's just say she would really enjoy how so much of the world now relies on electricity, and how easily she can now avoid water~ Plus, computers would fascinate her to no ends! (And there’s so many more shiny things to... “borrow”...)
Dione would hate it, unfortunately. Too many people, too loud, too little privacy. Also you're quite a bit more suspicious wearing a big shadowy cloak in this time period, but at least she can now get away with colourful hair tips and eyes without much trouble: hair dye and contacts! But what the heck happened to the natural environment? Where did all the plants go!? She does not like.
Phoenix would honestly be mystified more than anything, but after getting over the initial shock, I think she would find it to be an exciting adventure! She would especially have fun with all the new advancements with explosives and fireworks… and cooking, of course! Might have some trouble carrying around a saber and pistols out in broad daylight, though…
And Colin would at first not even recognize that they're in a different time, but eventually he would be absolutely fascinated with all the differences! And the music and all the bright colourful clothing and advertisements would just… distract him so badly. He’d be walking into people/things all over the place because he’d be so busy looking around in awe. XD
I feel like all of them would get a lot of stares for what they’d be wearing, but at least it could be explained easily enough with, “Oh, there must be a historical re-enactment in town or something.”
Thank you for the ask!! And I hope you have a nice day as well~ ^u^
