just wanted to share hihi but I was talking with my friend when somebody asked "if makoto, shuichi and kokichi were in a polycule, who'd easily be the most jealous?"— my friend said kokichi obvs, and to some extent I agree but i think shuichi tbh after thinking about it more 😭. i think kokichi would be the most upfront but in general more of a "joking" fashion. but shuichi would tend to do subtle yet very very big things to redirect them. like purposely saying he'll probably pull an all nighter on a case to get them to stay with him.

Makoto does not know. Kokichi def knows.

Oh, my immediate thought was Shuichi, and yes, you're on point for a lot of why.

I think a lot of Kokichi's jealousy is more focused on establishing the character of himself to be someone who is jealous than on the other person causing the jealousy, and Shuichi is very focused on what the other person did.

Like, for Shuichi it's about accountability. It's about "Why would you say that to Makoto when I'm standing right here?" And the like. For Kokichi, the idea is that if people know he's very jealous, they won't bother provoking his jealousy.

If someone tells Makoto he looks cute today, Kokichi might pop in like, "Wow, that's a nice compliment. Hey, everyone! This guy's giving out compliments! Me next! Give me a compliment next!" Or he might pop in like, "I told him he looked cute first. So there! Nice try. Way to embarrass yourself." Or he might pop in like, "Wow, he does look cute! He also looks super taken, so why don't you move along and try dyeing those roots." Just something that pulls the focus away from any chemistry Makoto might have with this other person and makes the whole interaction pretty much only about Kokichi being territorial.

In the same situation, Shuichi at first just kind of watches the mini-interaction of the person telling Makoto he looks cute and Makoto saying thanks. Then Shuichi "I can wear a hat if I want to!" Saihara starts mentally compiling his list. He waits until the person makes the right number of infractions before confronting them with everything he's observed.

(Because Kokichi knows Shuichi is going to be way worse than him, he plays it cool the whole time. Just gleefully waiting for Shuichi to strike.)

Maybe an hour later, Shuichi puts a stop to things by saying, "Why did you say that?"

The person who's been flirting with Makoto is just like, "What?"

"You said you wish you'd started talking to Makoto more 'months ago'. Why did you say that?"

(Kokichi is side-hugging Makoto and grinning with excitement.)

"Just that it would have been cool to have been friends with him sooner..."

"You didn't say 'sooner'. You didn't say 'friends'. You said you wished you started talking with him more 'months ago'. Why did you say that, specifically?"

(Makoto started dating Shuichi and Kokichi months ago, so the comment definitely comes across like the guy was saying "I wish we started talking more before you got with your boyfriends.")

"I don't know, I..."

"Also, I notice you didn't comment on anyone else's appearance, here, except Makoto's. Is there a reason for that? Also..."

(Everything Shuichi noticed in the past hour is coming out into the light.)

Also, Kokichi likes to leave likes on people's social media as an intimidation tactic. Someone flirts with Makoto, and then the next time they check their phone, every single one of their photos for the past eight years has gotten a like from Kokichi's account. Basically his way of saying, "Found ya! 😁"
