What's the difference between P and J? I can't really understand

Ahhh well anon i could have sWORN that we have another post on this but we couldn't find it so lucky you ur getting an og response

Um well generally P and J is like a .... P is more flexible and spontaneous and J is more organised and consistent or something

like ESFP's are known for their spontaneity and live-in-the-moment vibe, whereas ESFJ's are known as very reliable and consistent friends.... or like an INFP is known as a more version of an INFJ (JKJK) by which I mean that INFPs are more likely to say some random thing or come up with crazy ideas, have daydreams that are a little more imaginative, whereas INFJs are quite more measured and probably more critical and sometimes known as perfectionists

The actual cognitive functions stuff (the part of mbti where the letters code the way you think - look it up/check it out) relating to p and j is that the P means your percieving functions (sensing and intuition) are the first extraverted function, and the J means that your judging functions (feeling, thinking) are the first ones to be extraverted.

so its essentially saying: when it comes to the outside world, are you better at making connections / processing it (percieving, through sensing or intuition), or making decisions / understanding it (judging, through feeling or thinking)

as an example i’ll take the infj: NiFeTiSe

what’s the first extroverted function? Fe, that’s a judging function so the infj is a judger.

as an another example i’ll take the infp: FiNeSiTe

what’s the first extroverted function? Ne, that’s a perceiving function so the infp is a perceiver.

What makes someone a P type: Feeling naturally more comfortable without being restricted to plans, and preferring to leave your options open to change

What doesn’t make someone a P type

being disorganized/ messy

being lazy

being someone who doesn’t get stressed easily

What makes someone a J type: Feeling naturally more comfortable when you have plans, and preferring to have structure regarding components of your everyday life 

What doesn’t make someone a J type: 

getting stressed easily

having and/or enjoying a well organized space

being structured when it matters (i.e to meet deadlines)

Type motivations

Random idea imma put here to not forget and mbs get feedback:

P types are motivated by fear (fear of failure, fear of repeating a subject, etc)

J types are motivated by reward (winning a prize, being top of the class, etc)

Is it possible for people to be 'blends' of two different types? Some people claim to be but that doesn't really make sense to me. I know some people have better developed auxiliary, tertiary and so on functions so maybe that makes some people get confused and identify as more than one?

Hello anon! I agree with you, I don’t think it makes much sense. Someone might be undecided between two types, but that scenario makes me think that they haven’t been typed in a conclusive way, I don’t think you can be more than one type at the same time unless you have more than one mind. 

There are some confusions that I can understand (x must coincide in each case):

E vs. I

Exxx and Ixxx because you’d use the same functions in a very similar order. Since introverts’ first cognitive function is introverted, they might come across as extroverts if they have a powerful auxiliary function because it is the one that is shown (you can’t see what’s happening inside their minds, introverted functions don’t usually give clear signs). 

F vs. T

 xxFx and xxTx. We have two scenarios here. a) ExFP - ExTP // IxFJ - IxTJ:  in this case, both will share the dominant and inferior functions. Solution: determine whether the person uses inductive or deductive reasoning or any other way to solve the Ti or Te paradigm. b) IxFP - IxTP // ExFJ - IxTJ:  this one is quite different, the shared functions are the auxiliary and the tertiary. Solution: find out which one is the individual’s dominant function. 

N vs S

xNxx and xSxx. Again, two scenarios.a) ENxJ - ESxJ // ISxP - INxP: they will have the same dominant and inferior functions. Solution: determine the auxiliary function. b) INxJ - ISxJ // ESxP - ENxP: they share the auxiliary and tertiary functions. Solution: determine the dominant function.

J vs. P

All this taking into consideration that the xxxP and xxxJ confusion DOES. NOT MAKE. ANY. SENSE. xxxP and xxxJ are completely different types that use the functions in an absurdly divergent order. If someone thinks they are either e.g. INTJ or INTP, I’d suggest to stop taking binomial tests and switch to cognitive functions.

P vs J stereotypes and misconceptions

Something that has always bothered me about Internet mbti stereotypes is that someone can’t be a P if they like to clean. I am an ENF freaking P and I love cleaning my house and doing laundry and cooking and all that stuff (except toilets and mopping, same as every human alive,) its infuriating that all P types get labeled as a slob. The same thing can go for planning. What people don’t understand is that some Ps love to make plans. I think the real difference (for me at least lol) is not being able to follow through with those plans. But yeah it feels good to put the truth out here on the Internet for someone to see and hopefully understand.

The "J" in ENFJ does not mean that I judge people!!! It means that I am organized to a ridiculous degree and make plans for my plans, as apposed to a P who prefers to make "judgments" regarding the when's, where's, and how's of life at the last possible minute.  It's referred to as judgmental because we "J's" must prioritize and judge our moves ahead of time in order to plan our lives to such a ridiculous degree.  So not the same as judging people.  Not that we can't do that as well, but we are also crazy empathetic and capable of understanding most anyone's perspective.  Just saying. Rant over!
