@page-mistress you wily temptress, you hung that tasty bait out and I ATE IT LIKE A STARVING BEAR!!!
I hope you’re happy with yourself...
The feared pirate Jamison “Junkrat” Fawkes sat in his little rowboat, a torch in his hand and a chest of freshly knicked valuables behind him as he looked at the large, scaly creature peacefully snoozing within his massive horde of treasure he had hidden in a hard to spot cave in somewhat dangerous waters (because, as his best mate, Mako “Seahog” Rutledge put it, “Yer th’ only one mad ‘nough ta hide loot there.”).
Okay, this was something he hadn’t expected...slash ever considered would ever happen. But in retrospect, his best mate found a siren on his treasure (although how she got there and where it was, he’d never say), and now he was courting her while she worked as a doctor on their ship, if that could happen, why couldn’t a random dragon be snoozing on his stash?
Now that he thought about it, wasn’t having a dragon guard his stash a good thing? After all, dragons nested in massive piles of treasure and in mines filled with sparkly gems and defended them with fire, fangs and claws sharper than swords.
But what if this dragon attacked him if he ever came to collect any treasure he may need? Hmm... he needed more information and he didn’t want to go back to the ship with his haul to ask around about them.
So, that left him with only one option.
“Oi.” He called, one deep purple eyelid opening, revealing a pretty, sparkling golden eye behind it, “G’day.” he greeted with a glint of his golden tooth, “Comfy there on me treasure?”
The golden eye blinked, surprised, before a large claw rose from a pile of gold coins, a single talon raised in a silent, ‘one moment please’.
He leaned back in his boat, motioning his flesh arm and his hook as he told it to, “Take yer toime, I can wait.”
That wasn’t exactly true, either Mako or Angela the Siren would come by here eventually to check on him, but the dragon didn’t need to know that.
The cave suddenly grew warm, as if a sun was rising under the gold as the dragon seemed to... was it shrinking into his gold?
Okay, he’d never heard about a dragon doing that before, but hey, now he knew they could, good on him.
“You are either very brave or very foolish.” A woman’s voice echoed through the cave as a smaller, more feminine form emerged from the gold, her violet scales sparkling like gems and her gorgeous golden eyes sparkling at him as she smiled, “But to answer your question, yes, I was quite comfortable. Although, I am a bit surprised,” She walked away from the horde and walked quite a bit towards his small boat much like he always imagined a Queen might walk, her expression curious, “Your treasure?” she chuckled.
He bristled at that a bit and thumbed back to the chest behind him, “Would I really be bringin’ more ‘ere if it weren’ moine ta start with?” He asked her, “Be roight foolish ta put me hard earned loot into someone else’s haul.”
She pondered this, allowing him to soak in her appearance more. Her horns seemed to follow the lines of her eyebrows and flowed out of her head, something that resembled what he’d think a dragon’s tail would look like coming out of her head, almost resembling hair. The glow of her eyes shined off of a pair of golden hoop earrings that hung from what he guessed were horned ears? Maybe? There was a a yellow glowing line that went up from her naval to her chest, her, ehem, chest covered with two large, flame shaped plates covered with scales. She was missing an arm as well, in place of her left arm was a well sculpted metal one with a glowing amber crystal in her palm. Her wings came from her hips and wrapped around her waist like a skirt, her feet resembling the heels high court ladies might wear to... he didn’t know, fall over? It wasn’t like he met with many high court ladies to know...
“I suppose you have a point.” The dragon finally replied, snapping him from his observations, “But that doesn’t explain why you’d be foolish enough to wake me.”
He cleared his throat and stood, placing his peg on the shore of the cave while his boot stayed on the boat, bringing it closer to the shore, “Tell me this, if you saw me in ‘ere, holding a treasure chest, what would be th’ foirst thing ya’d do?”
“Kill... oh.” She said, her eyes widening in comprehension as he nodded, “Yeah. Not tha’ I’d blame ya. I mean, it’d be th’ foirst thin’ I’d think of.” he said.
She looked at him, cautious, “Are you going to ask me to leave?”
“Nah, ‘m actually wonderin’ if we could make a deal.” He said.
“Oh?” she replied, her eyes warm with amusement and curiosity.
“Yeah, you can live ‘ere ‘n snooze ‘n me treasure all you’d loike, keep it safe from bastards who try ta steal it,” He began.
“But ya can’ kill me or any mates who moight come down ‘ere with me, ‘cause sometoimes I get help movin’ treasure in ‘ere.” he said, “’N ya can’ get mad if me if a need a small sack of coins every now ‘n then fer supplies... ‘N don’ bring male dragons ‘ere.”
“I am fine with most of these terms,” she said, “However, I am confused as to why you don’t want me to bring a male dragon here.”
“One.”he said, holding up a finger, “How well would a male dragon take me bein’ in ‘ere? Even if I was jus’ droppin’ off more treasure?”
“Not well.” She conceded.
“Fer th’ second point, I need a bit of information on yer end, if ya don’ moind...”
She shook her head and motioned for him to ask his questions.
“You dragons nest in treasure, roight? Do th’ males stick ‘round or leave roight aftah? How long do eggs take ta hatch? How big are baby dragons? How fast are baby dragons?...”
She held up her claw to stop him, “I believe I understand the second point, your concerns are that, if I was to reproduce, your life or the lives of those who may aid you would be in danger?”
He nodded, “More or less.” He said.
“Well, to answer your questions in order; large piles of treasure are ideal for a nest and raising young. We dragons mate for life, so yes, a male would stick around if we reproduced. The length of time it takes for an egg to hatch varies, but often it’s nearly a year after laying before they hatch, and they need to be kept quite warm. Baby dragons are often quite small, about the size of a human infant, which is why I can change my size and they can become quite fast very quickly.” she informed him, “However, there is no need to worry about a male dragon coming to live with me, as I am not one many males would take to...”
“Yer pullin’ my leg!” He exclaimed as he tied his boat off to a tall rock.
“I have not touched your leg.” she said.
“It’s an expression.” He told her as he walked into the water and started lifting the chest up, “it means, I foind tha’ hard ta believe.”
She stared at him, her cheeks starting to glow orange and the temperature in the cave rising as he began trudging through the shallow waters to place the chest with the rest of the treasure, “t-thank you.” she stammered, making him stop to look at her, much to her obvious dismay and embarrassment as she told him that, “But, my bloodline is... tainted. No one would want to court me, let alone mate with me...”
He watched as she didn’t make eye contact, gently rubbing the amber in her palm and struggling to keep her face straight.
He didn’t know this dragon from any other living creature on this strange world, but he didn’t like how she described herself as ‘tainted’ it felt like she was saying a word that others had called her enough times to make her think it was true, it was like how people on the first ship he worked on called him dim or worthless.
He scowled and put the chest down on the shore and gently placed his hand and hook on her shoulders, surprising her with the sudden physical contact and surprising him with how warm her skin was and how nice she smelled, like a spice trader’s ship, “I take th’ no males thing back.” he said plainly, “You can bring whatever male ya want back as long as ‘e’s good ta ya ‘n as long as ya tell me which ones gave ya tha’ ‘tainted bloodloine’ shite ta ya so I can shoot ‘im out of th’ bloody sky...” he paused, “’N tha’ you can get ‘im ta not kill me or me mates...”
She chuckled at the last part and he took that as a good sign as he let go of her shoulders and went back to the chest, lifting it up with a huff and walking it back towards the horde, the dragon following him to the edge of the pile, “What kind of treasure did you bring back?” she asked him.
He smiled broadly, eager at the chance to show off, “Oh, you’ll love this!” He promised as he opened the chest and pulled out large, sparkling gems, gold bars and coins, strings of pearls and even a golden crown with bright colored jewels. He handed her item after item to admire, the two talking about where he found them. Only pausing when he took out a necklace with a large, sparkling sapphire.
“Hmmm...” he hummed before undoing the latch and putting it around her neck, surprising her with the action and the broad smile on his face as he laughed that, “I was roight! It does suit ya!”
Her cheeks turned orange again and the cave heated up once more as he began to happily adorn her in the jewelry he’d stolen, with her joining in when he couldn’t figure out how one put a golden nose chain on, but held it out to her anyway, “A little help?” he asked sheepishly.
She chuckled and put it on within seconds, surprising him and making him laugh again, “Wasn’ expectin’ tha’, but it looks great!”
“In some cultures, women wear this on their wedding day and their grooms remove them to symbolize the loss of their virginity.” She told him, his hand and hook quickly flying into the air, a nervous expression on his face. She smiled, “It only means that on their wedding night!” She assured him.
He let out a nervous chuckle before saying, “Ya couldn’ of said tha’ sooner?” Making her laugh, the sound sweet to him as he joined her.
Once they recovered enough, he held out his hand, “So we got a deal?” he asked.
She smiled back and took it, “Indeed.” she said as they shook, “I never did get your name, though.”
Now it was his turn to blush, “Jamison... Jamison Fawkes... It don’ really suit me, I know, but...”
“On the contrary, it suits you perfectly.” She told him, making his face burn bright as she introduced herself, “My name is Satya.”
“Satya.” he said, trying it out on his tongue before smiling, “Pretty name fer a gorgeous dragon!” She gave him a warm smile in return, a faint song echoing through the cave. Satya bristling at the sound of a siren’s song.
“It’s alroight, tha’s Angie, she’s me mate, Mako,’s girl, she’s jus’ lettin’ me know tha’ it’s gettin’ late ‘n tha’ I need ta get back soon.”
“Your friend is courting a siren?” she repeated, shocked.
He shrugged, “’E’s got a thing fer sweet blondes with a voice loike an angel.” He then got up from the gold pile and picked up the now empty chest, smiling at her, “As fer me, I prefer a girl with a foire in ‘er!”
“Careful,” she warned warmly as she got up to stand with him, “You might get burned.”
“Worth it.” He told her as they walked back to the rowboat, “I’ll be back in a fortnoight or so, dunno how much I’ll get, but I’ll be bringin’ somethin’ at least!”
“I’m looking forward to it.” she purred as he plopped the empty chest into the boat, untied the rope and hopped into his boat and waved good bye, “Hoo Roo, Satya! See ya soon!”
She smiled and waved back, the jewelry jingling as she moved.
Jamison “Junkrat” smiled as he heard the lovely jingling sound of the jewelry on her body.
‘Hmm... Ya know, I betcha tha’ cargo ship would have plenty of noice lookin’ jewels tha’ would look good on ‘er...’ he thought as he rowed back to the ship
Again @page-mistress, this all your fault.
