You stood, eyes closed, leaning against the wall of the art building. A thought that weighed whether or not you’d fall forward or slide down the side of the building onto your butt floated across your mind as you heard footsteps jog up to you.

“I’m so sorry to make you wait... Y/n?”

You willed your eyes open and looked at Jaehyun. You inhaled hard. “I’m awake. I’m so awake right now.”

He chuckled halfheartedly. “You know, you can just sleep at my dorm, I don’t mind.”

“No... I really just want to go home--” you shook your head and had to press your fingers to your temples to stop the resulting dizziness. “Uh, to my dorm.”

He nodded. He looked worried. “Okay, let’s get you back to your place.”

"What? You don't believe me?"

"Huh? Oh, being awake? I believe you so much. There could not be a moment where I don't believe you."

You snorted a laugh.

He slipped your arm over his shoulder and picked you up off the wall so your weight was on him. 

“You’re not even going to buy me a drink first?” You laughed at your own joke.

He turned to you.

You jolted. Your faces were very close.

“I--”

“You really don’t stop making jokes, huh?”

You laughed awkwardly. “I guess not.”

He smiled and looked ahead. “Let’s get you to bed.”

You nodded, and let him half-carry you as your feet tried to shirk their job of bringing you to your destination.

“You really were pushing the limit of your needing sleep.” Jaehyun remarked of your inability to walk.

“I’ve stayed up for over 24 hours before.” You said as if it was a thing you should be doing.

“You know you really shouldn’t be doing that, right?”

“Sometimes the muse just strikes-- and it’s everything you can do to not get struck by a then-boyfriend, you know?”

“What?” Jaehyun stopped and looked at you.

“It was just the one time.”

“Someone you dated hit you?”

“Just once--”

“Y/n, that’s not okay.”

“I know that now.” You said pointedly. “Young Me didn’t know, but Older Me knows. And it was a long time ago. Like, years.”

Jeahyun stared at you for a moment and went back to helping you walk to your dorm.

“Like, thank you for the concern, but I got it. I realized it was wrong back then and that I should never let anyone treat me like that again.”

He sighed. “Well… I’m glad you did.”

You nodded and leaned your head on his shoulder as he steered you both back to your dorm.

“Just because you’ve been in a worse situation before doesn’t mean you don’t deserve better now.”

“Do you mean the sleep or the dating shit?”

“The dating-- well, both, really.”

You held onto him tighter as you tried to keep up with his pace. “I think… I think you’re right.”

“About which?”

“Both.”

“Well when I was little, I didn’t have many friends either… I wasn’t sporty because of my condition and preferred to be reading books than anything; I was teased and was called a nerd. Now here I am studying technology and brains which is pretty rewarding”

Char looked over at Synapse and gave an odd look.

“Kind of good because I really don’t see you being the sporty type…”

Synapse chuckled softly before rubbing the back of his head.

“Good thing I wasn’t. I got to study many other things in return for not being able to run a lot”

Char gave a small giggle from the silly conversation before blinking in confusion.

“What did you actually study?”

Synapse pondered for a moment and tapped a finger on his head.

“I did a bit of engineering, psychology, biology, physics, chemistry, medical…”

Char was wide-eyed and her mouth agape.

“You did a lot of science… Even I can’t process all that information…”

Synapse blinked slightly confused.

“Don’t you study that now at IPU?”

Char shook her head slowly and blinked.

“The worse I do in my study is Technicism; otherwise I am not one exactly for science or technical stuff…”

Synapse scratched his head in confusion.

“Then what exactly are you aiming to study?”

Char stretched her arm and froze as she saw Sage shuffle slightly with Squishy but ended up rolling to face the other side.

“Anything that makes me stay away from whatever my parents do…”

Synapse scratched his head and look at Vanna who also rolled to face the opposite direction.

“What do your parents do exactly?”

Char shrugged; she never really thought about it or paid attention to the information they gave her when she was young.

“CEO for… something I forgot… I don’t pay attention”

Synapse gave an odd look before stretching and lying down.

“If you don’t know then why do you want to stay away from it?”

Char stretched her legs out and bowed her head.

“Because they keep talking about how I would be a success to a company I don’t even know about… and it was like I even had a choice to begin with”

Synapse sighed and gave a small yawn.

“As much as this talk was fun and all, I feel sleepy again…”

Char nodded and yawned as well.

“I need sleep after what happened… Talk soon?”

Synapse sighed softly.

“Yeah… Sleep well”

Synapse instantly went back to sleep as Char took a moment or two to think before going to sleep.

“Good morning!”
