UGH The way I just LOVE queer ships ☹️☹️☹️

"Oh you like queer ships because you fetishize them-" NO.

Queer ships are usually built, het ships are usually written. With queer ships, We had to do MORE Thinking on the character's romantic choice and life and how that will impact their lives, and not just say "Well they're canon so they're meant to be"

I literally can't stress this ENOUGH that sometimes queer ships have character development, choices, hardships, culture, and even values that most straight ships may not have or go through.

AND??? THAT'S SO BEAUTIFUL.

The fact that most queer relationships are out of CHOICE and not "fate/destiny" feels so personal and touching for me. ☹️

Most of the queer ships I know don't just ask "Are they meant to be?" Or "Are they good together?", WE ask "Will their love not only create safety, warmth, and acceptance for eachother, but also compatible personality and shared values that creates a sustaining long term relationship?"

With queer ships, we don't have the "societal standards" to expect and follow, but our own values to build, and I think this is what most people are confused about when it comes to queer relationship or couples.

NO, They're not supposed to follow hetnormative standards. They're both of different systems...or different games kinda.

No, most queer ships are not "canon" or "meant to be" or "destined/fated", and that's what makes them feel personal. They're not "supposed to happen", they're not "by the narrative".

Loving queer ships encourage us to think outside of what is "canon" or what is explicitly written and think of the underlying motivations, strengths, and values of one and another character that makes them compatible.

We say "their compatible personality and shared values has potential to sustain a (romantic) long term relationship."

I LOVE queer ships because they are established out of effort, communication, and choice, not out of expectations, power imbalance, and romantic default settings.

This is from an upcoming chapter in my Parvati/Lavender complication:

“Guess what, babe?” Lavender asked, her voice husky. She joined Parvati in the kitchen while Parvati was at the sink, cleaning the dishes from their dinner. 

“What?” Parvati asked, not turning around. Lavender took the opportunity to sidle up against her, pressing against her back. She felt Parvati’s breath stutter as she slid her hands down her back and over her arse. 

“I made you something,” Lavender purred in her ear.

“You did?”

“Mmmm-hmmm,” Lavender hummed, kissing the side of her neck. 

Parvati turned slowly to face her, her dark eyes bright. “Show me?”

Lavender took her hand and led her into the bedroom. She picked up a garment from the back  of her desk chair and handed it to Parvati, who looked at it and raised her eyebrow. 

“I guess I should try it on,” she said. She slipped into their en suite while Lavender perched on the foot of the bed.
