Passive Perception is an indie dramedy murder mystery graphic novel, co-written by my dear friend @bubblyernie and I, and incredibly illustrated by her.

I have DnD 5e question.

I have a druid character with a homebrew race.

Lvl 3

Perception skill, proficient

Wisdom 16 (+3)

Proficiency bonus +2

DnDBeyond somehow came up with a whopping 18 for her Passive Perception.

Our GM (and thr other PCs) say it should be 15.

Why is it 18 on Beyond? Is it bugged? Or should we add WIS twice? The PHB is not very helpful.

For me, the most unrealistic thing about D&D is that passive perception stays consistent. My “irl” passive perception is either zero or one hundred.

I can walk through a hall and mentally note every damn thing about it, absolutely astounding my family members with my “Hey, I’m looking for this thing.” “Oh, it’s in this other room that I happened to glance into for a half a second while walking by earlier.”

On the other hand, I’ve been sitting in a room for ten minutes and my cousin walked in, immediately commenting on a painting on the wall I hadn’t noticed. My family has been on vacation for the better part of a week now, and it took me three days to realize there is not two, but three bathrooms.

So yeah, consistentcy? In my dumb brain? It’s less likely than you’d think.

Percy (ranger): My passive perception is 14, I notice and I’m not happy about it.

Mary: Same here.

Steve: My passive perception’s 20, but I don’t care, I’m chaotic good.

Percy: She might have been supporting a family with that money!

Steve: *shrug*

Character cards!! I wanted to do some properly rendered art of them, so I made these!

(and paired em up with some ACTUAL character sheets over on patreon. Everyone is levelled to level 5, I got stats for em all!! There's one feat per character that I think is fitting! 2014 rules because I haven't accustomed to 2024 yet lol but yes, some basic NPC builds for anyone who needs something quick and archetypical!! Had a LOT of fun building them so if you're interested go check it out)

And if anyone can guess the class + subclass + race build off the dome for every single person then I'll give u a little prize uwu and its different from my non-comic versions of them so its really up to your intuition
