Since it's the first day of the event, I thought I'd go ahead and participate in the wonderful “paganblr online fair” initiative! On this first day of the fair, I'll briefly introduce the God I worship the most, Lord Freyr. 💛 God of the seasons, Bestower of peace, King of the elves, and King of kings.
Freyr is the most renowned of the Æsir; he rules over the rain and the shining of the sun, and therewithal the fruit of the earth; and it is good to call on him for fruitful seasons and peace. He governs also the prosperity of men. Gylfaginning, the Prose Edda, paragraph 24.
It's tough putting into words everything that he is to me, but I'll try to stay brief! I don’t regard him as a patron deity because I simply never really liked the apparent formality of the concept of patron/matron. He appeared almost instantly in my life, as if he popped out of nowhere. From an emotional perspective, he struck me as a source of joy, light-heartedness, and most importantly, hope. I greatly admire him and I've worshipped him actively for around four years, a rather noteable portion of my pagan journey.
Digging into his myth and his presence in historical practices made me realize how connected I've always been to him and what he represents. Fundamentally, he is a God of nature, at least in my eyes. I view him as a deity who commands sun and rain, and who grants blessings of the earth. In my practice however, his fertility aspect is sometimes overshadowed by the great importance peace takes on when you start to work closely with him. No matter the season, and even when I feel out of touch with nature, he's always present as this feeling of peace and warmth.
In my experience, he is a deity whose personality stands out as soothing and cheerful. He always seems like he's in a bright mood, and he's generous with the signs that he sends: he will always let you know he's there. He’s understanding and encouraging, and I’m so very grateful for the joy that he’s brought me so far.
