Welcome to my sideblog! You can call me Witchling or whatever you prefer :)
This blog is dedicated to witchcraft and Paganism. User currently worships and works with mostly the Hellenic Pantheon, but I will reblog other pantheons on here.
Note: My main blog is a fandom blog, so if you see any interaction from a fandom blog, it could be me (I normally reblog to here). @/whatrambles
This is a religious blog.
I don't mind fandom blogs interacting, but please note that this is very much not a fandom or role-playing blog.

The Samhain Ultramarathon | 100 Days of Witchcraft
"Etheri, why are you talking about Samhain already? It's still Spring where you live..." shhh...
October 31st is my favorite day to be a witch! I find myself looking forward to it throughout various times of the year. So, this year, I decided to make a little "challenge" for myself in the days leading up to Samhain, and I wanted to invite others to participate ^.^
Starting July 23rd, I'd like to invite you all to join me for what I'm calling "The Samhain Ultramarathon!"
The challenge itself is to touch your Craft for 100 days in a row! Starting July 23rd, the task is to do something, anything, witchy each day, counting down to October 31st. Some days can be as simple as just updating your grimoire or lighting a stick of incense, while other days can be more elaborate spells or rituals. The ultimate goal is to touch your practice at least once a day, even for just one minute, for 100 consecutive days! It'll be like a spiritual marathon... hence the name :P
I'm sharing this now, over two months out, to give anyone who may want to participate time to coordinate! If you want to share your preparations and if you want to share your "marathon experience" once the challenge itself starts, please use the tag #TheSamhainUltramarthon !

Use this spread when you need to vet someone to learn all you can about them. This spread was originally written for vetting someone before you (or someone you know) decide whether or not to go out with someone, pursue them, or accept their advances, but it can be used to vet anyone. New acquaintance you're unsure of? It works for that. Met someone new and you get the feeling they're not being genuine about themselves? It works for that. Your best friend starts seeing someone new and something just doesn't feel right? It works for that. And then some!

A Note About Language Use In Our Server: Recently, a member of the pathandpractice server shared a self-written decolonization resource that included the use of the words "ethnic", "exotic" and "racial" when referring to POC and non-white people, groups of people, and cultures. This post was shared with the explanation that the writer was sharing it for discussion. As a result, a concern was raised about the use of these words (by another member who is visibly mixed race and immediately identified themselves as a POC) and a discussion began which included input from POC as well as input from a member with a professional background providing DEI training and resources for teachers and school staff.
Although this user left the server, we do want to make it clear that the use of these words to describe POC and non-white people, groups of people, and cultures outside of specific quotations from scholarly sources is not something we will tolerate in the server, either in messages posted there or in resources that are shared there. Additionally, we want to be clear that we approach academic racism and academic discrimination (including the implication that POC users "do not understand" the material presented or are "misguided" in their criticism of word use and approach, even in DEI context) as racism and discrimination. We understand that it is not always possible for non-POC to understand the impacts of certain language use on POC people and groups of people, and we do not hold not knowing against anyone. However, we do treat the repeated assertion that POC who take issue with things such as language use, presence of stereotypes, etc. are themselves "misguided" or misinformed, or the idea that "racism exists, therefore one has no choice but to use those words" and POC must just accept it as an instance of academic discrimination and stereotyping.
Please be aware going forward that, while we encourage discussion and do not hold not knowing against anyone, responding to such concerns with further racial bias and insults to intelligence will not be an issue for discussion and will result in an immediate ban. We apologize to any POC or other members who may have been upset by this interaction. We have received many messages about this, which we are in the process of addressing. We have left the interaction in the channel in question for both transparency and for educational purposed, but have added a trigger warning to the channel. Thank you to everyone who was part of addressing this exchange and situation as well everyone who provided additional feedback on whether to remove the messages or simply trigger warn them.
It's always the friends who adamantly insist they don't believe in ghosts, don't believe in witchcraft, don't believe in divination that will be terrified to so much as look at a tarot deck, scared to pass me a trinket box in my house (because they for some reason assume it "has something witchy inside it"), and won't hang out in a room in my house without me in it (because "there were noises" or "the puppet moved on its own").
But if I ask them how they can be afraid of something they insist isn't real? Oh, now I'm the problem. lol.
Fluorite is a lovely crystal that comes in a variety of colors. In this inaugural post of Crystal Crumbs, a series on the many crystals we meet in witchcraft, let's meet fluorite and her many faces.
Chemical Makeup
Fluorite is a halide mineral, meaning it is composed primarily of an anion of a halogen gas. Other examples include halite, which you may know as rock salt or NaCl! Cl- is an anion of chlorine. In fluorite's case, its chemical makeup is CaF2, with fluoride (F2) being the dominant anion.
Fluorite forms primarily in cubic shapes, but it can also form in octahedrons, or other complex isometric shapes. Fluorite ranks at 4 on the Mohs hardness scale, and is in fact the reference mineral for that level. This means it is harder than calcite, but is easily scratched by quartz and other harder minerals.
Pure fluorite is colorless like quartz, but chemical impurities give it a wide spectrum of possible colors, which fluorite is prized for in lapidary and jewelry-making. These impurities can include:
iron
manganese
rare earth elements like yttrium, cerium, samarium, thulium, etc
uranium
radioactive interference and heat during formation
hydrocarbons
Natural Companions/Lookalikes
Because fluorite comes in many colors, including colorless, it can often be mistaken for other minerals. Additionally, because it primarily grows in voids in hydrothermal vents and hot springs, it is often a companion to other minerals. These companions include:
quartz
calcite
baryte
sphalerite
galena
pyrite
dolomite
chalcopyrite
muscovite
quartz (especially amethyst)
rhodochrosite
Lookalikes include:
halide (similar shapes and composition)
calcite
tourmaline
History
Fluorite has been known to many civilizations for centuries, primarily for its use in decoration. Pliny the Elder described it in Naturalis Historia as a purple-and-white mottled stone, and it is believed that a mineral described in Sanskrit alchemical texts called vaikrānta may refer to fluorite. However, it truly rose to prominence in 16th century Germany, when scientist Georgius Agricola described it in his works on mineralogy and metallurgy. In iron smelting, fluorite is used to reduce the viscosity of slag, giving rise to its name, coming from Latin fluere, to flow. In his work, Agricola originally named it "fluorspar", a name still used today in industrial contexts. In 1852, fluorescence was discovered through the use of UV light on fluorite, and the element fluorine was also named after it.
Other Names
fluorspar (original name, industrial context)
murrina/myrrhina (classical studies, archaeology)
flourite
several other synonyms, available on mindat.org
Traditional Uses
Fluorite has been used in traditional Chinese medicine, labeled as a spirit-calming stone. It has also been used as a decorative stone for thousands of years across ancient Rome and Egypt. Fluorite has seen uses symbolically to improve blood flow (owing to its name), dental health (fluoride is a known element necessary for teeth), as well as generally calming and balancing several systems.
Modern Uses
In mundane life, it is used in optics to create lenses, and high-purity fluorite is often used as a source of hydrofluoric acid and pure fluorine gas. Magically, fluorite is a popular choice for focus, clarity, and purification, owing to its associations with intellect and "flow". It is used by many holistic practitioners for purposes relating to the joints, muscles, bones, and teeth.

Extra
Cleansing/charging notes:
Please be aware that fluorite is not safe to submerge in water for extended periods of time, as it contains toxic fluorine. You should also refrain from contact with salt, and do not drink water that has had fluorite in it. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, which can fade the colors of the crystal. Otherwise, cleanse and charge your fluorite in any way that you prefer.

I'm really going to need white witches and pagans to learn how to correctly use the terms race, ethnicity, nationality, etc. before they make posts about matters involving these subjects.
I'm also going to need white witches and pagans to stop trying to white savior their way to "witchblr prominence" by presenting themselves as speaking for members of marginalized and minority communities, when they are in fact speaking over and often spreading misinformation about those communities. Who are you to speak for us? Speak for yourself and your own traditions. Let us speak for ours. We are capable of doing so, trust me.
And, while I'm at it, I need white people to stop using the term exotic to talk about people and cultures. "Exotic" to whom? Not to the people and cultures you're fixing your lips to speak about. To quote an old reponse by writingwithcolor from back in 2015, "To discuss People of Color as if we are inherently exotic implies that only the white (or outsider’s) view matters."
Stop labelling us as exotic.
Stop speaking on our cultures and practices when you are not a part of them.
Stop depicting us as uninformed or incapable people who can't speak for ourselves and need white practitioners to be our spokespeople.
Stop speaking on things you do not know. This goes for religious practices as well. If you're not Muslim, stop talking over Muslims to speak on Islamic practices and traditions you have no part in; if you're not Jewish, we don't need your posts about Jewish traditions; if you're not Hindu, don't write talking about culture and traditions within and surrounding Hinduism; and the same for all religions.
We do not need your opinion as a white practitioner taking up space and drowning out our voices. We do not need your opinion as a white practitioner confusing readers who deferred to your posts about cultures and practices you are not a part of, when there are countless people from those cultures and practices who can accurately and correctly speak to those things, who know the histories because they're from those practices and cultures, who understand the nuances of these traditions because they are from those traditions.
It's 2026, y'all; and a lot of people doing this are of a plenty big enough age to know better. At this point, there's absolutely no excuse, and the vast majority of us are beyond tired of the "well-meaning," "good-intentioned" white practitioners who continue to behave in these harmful, narrow-minded ways. Those who do this are doing so much more damage than they realize, and that's far too commonly ignored.
Unfortunately, witchcraft can be pretty toxic to our pets. This post has birds in mind since I’m a bird owner, but it generally applies to most pets including cats and dogs.
Things you should DEFINITELY KEEP AWAY/HEAVILY RESEARCH before using around pets:
essential oils (specific ones are said to be toxic to specific animals. i say just keep that shit away from them period.)
certain flowers (lillies are toxic to cats. many different flowers are toxic to birds.)
scented candles
paraffin candles (these can excrete fumes and make nasty smoke. use beeswax unscented candles with cotton wicks if you want to use candles.)
incense (be especially careful with this as it can travel through your whole house pretty easily)
certain herbs/dried plants
smoke (birds have extremely delicate respiratory systems and anything like smoke or overly scented items can be detrimental)
juniper / sage (juniper used in saining is toxic to birds)
Some things are safe as long as not used in the same room, but even then, you should still be careful. Teflon, a coating used in nonstick pans can kill birds in under 40 minutes. Even when used in a different room, it can travel through the ventilation system of your house and get to your pet. The same can apply to other thing. Use extreme caution when using anything scented or smokey.
Hello! I saw you said your Patron was Lord Hades. I was wondering if you just like, pick a patron deity or do you have to consult the deity about it?
Hi! Well, I have read different takes on the subject, someone says that is the patron that choose you, someone else says the exact opposite. In my experience with Lord Hades, I ask through divination, specifically tarots and pendulum, (but you can use your favourite method) if I already had one patron to all the deities I was worshipping at the moment, thinking that Apollo was my patron, but he was like "no no, is Hades your patron!" In my case, my patron is the one who gave me the strongest signs he was in my life.
So, you can definitely check with divination who your patron is, and then you can talk to the deity and see how they can help you as your patron.
