Pearly is undeniably a thinker – he often surprises his underlinings by his deep pondering as to the meaning of things (life, the afterlife), etc. He catches other people off guard by asking them how they feel (“All these people trying to get up there [into heaven / being stars] and you choose to come down here and live a mortal life; do you like it?”) and why they have value, either as human beings or demons. He sneers at one of his underlings because they never question anything – “Would you consider yourself someone who seeks to understand things?” “No.” “Then don’t start now.” Pearly is forever trying to understand how things work, how the world operates, why things as they are, and what makes the most logical sense. He shows very little Fe except he likes to taunt people before he tries to kill them and/or remind them of their failures, just to watch them squirm.
Perceiving Functional Axis:
Extroverted Sensing (Se) / Introverted Intuition (Ni)
He does not mind doing things himself, but is always open to having someone else do it. He risks his immortality out of sheer confidence that he can best Peter in a fight – and would have, if not for “the starlight.” Pearly also has the problem of low Ni, in that he leaps to immediate conclusions and drives toward swift action (Se) based off a shallow hunch (low Ni) and does not take long enough to explore other options, assuming the first thing that comes into his head will answer all the problems. This is how he erred with Beverly. His arrogance is his total confidence in his own hunches, which are often either misplaced or flat out erroneous.

Pearly sees the world as a puzzle he has to figure out, and spends a lot of time philosophizing and thinking. He sneers at others who are not as intellectual as he is. He asks constant questions of others, in an attempt to understand them. He knows far more about the stars, how the heavens work, and what miracles are all about, than his underlings.

He treats every situation calmly but with aggression and sometimes violence. Pearly isn’t easily ruffled and considers others to be weak. He likes to push people and see what they do, also to bend the rules. He likes to be hands on and is a bit hedonistic, although he takes care not to step over Lucifer’s boundaries. Lucifer has left him “in charge” of New York City as his dominion and he does it well. His 5 fix is partly why he’s so philosophical, interested in gathering knowledge, and even introspective at times. His 3 has a reputation to maintain and puts aside personal feelings for show. As an sp/so, he handles his own direct needs and then tries to influence his underlings.

Book 11) Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin

Thoughts:
Here are some things I said on Goodreads plus some extra commentary that I added later after reading another commenter's review ^_^
I think I like the movie's narrative better in relation to the focus on Peter, Pearly, Beverly, Virginia, Willa, Abby & the "is it possible to love someone so completely they cannot die" & angels, demons & evil vs miracles (everyone gets 1)
I do not understand what the hell happened The City of Justice was a lake from the clouds? Or what the hell happened is this meant to be metaphorical or literal -there's a lot that does not make sense to me. I like the ending of the movie better even if the second half of the film felt rushed. To answer your question Mark, yes. (Don't want to spoil what the question was posed at the end of the novel).
[on the audiobook specifically] I'd like to add that I did enjoy the narration of this so that the characters had more distinct voices. Loved Peter Lake's voice especially.
A Winter's Tale has beautiful language in a very distinct style of writing. However, narratively there is a lot that does not connect without outside context. For myself at least the ending does not make a whole lot of sense of what actually occurred to end the story. Were there literal things happening or were there metaphorical things happening or was it a mixture of both? If you've seen the film, you'll recognize a few characters, themes, plot points and settings. But this book due to its length and its narrative definitely spreads over a lot more than the film dared to. Prepare to meet new characters without initial reason for their introduction in new, sometimes unpredictable scenes. Whiplash sometimes from it but generally all these characters will have purpose. One thing I will say about Mark Helprin's style is he really loves to use similes and metaphors as well as long lists of things —which can be fun but sometimes makes you lose a little bit of attention on what's being said and you don't consciously acknowledge everything that he said in the list because of its length. If this had been a series of books over more pages to enable the author to fill in some of the blanks that I feel the narrative has then I may have given a 4 out of 5 because of the very nice language used that I can appreciate.
Furthermore I'd also like to say I agree with another reviewer who said this novel shows that Mark Helprin is a good writer but not a good novelist. He's got the language and words down but not quite the plotline/narration ^_^

Some very quick characters in XCom 2 before I go to bed. I want to fill my character pool up with dumb stuff before I start the game.
The content available to work with is fairly limited (the faces never look -quite- right) but remember that:
a) You need to unlock most content by playing the campaign.
b) The game has full mod support.
So hopefully better stuff will follow. I love that the character creator exists outside of the campaign!
Lucifer (Will Smith) and Pearly (Russell Crowe) Awesome Scene
My favorite bit of this whole scene was this (starting at 2:36).
Pearly Soames: Lucifer! I need permission to stop this one. Now! Judge: [angrily] Now? You have no idea what "now" is. Now, I was flying. Now I breath fire and ate them as they fled. Now I whipped my tail and winds fled. Now I am hidden in this pale shade of flesh and bone. Now, I am witness to man's eternal salvation, now I am witness to his demise. Do NOT speak to me of time, demon! Its simplest legalist terms delude your meager understanding! Find another way! *NOW*!
What do you think of the scene? Makes me wonder how other Lucifer’s from other shows/movies would pull this sort of statement regarding time. Especially the Lucifer from Supernatural both Mark P.’s portrayal and Jared P’s portrayal.
