[Epilogue] PEN.UP Calendar Contest 2015

 With an idea that it would be good for PEN.UP to be always with your daily life in the coming 2015, we held a PEN.UP contest. It’s exciting and rewarding just to think that we can appreciate PEN.UP pictures on our own desks with the calendars which are filled with your wonderful works throughout the year. Penple contributed lots of beautiful pictures to making PEN.UP calendars. While there were too many excellent works, we had to choose 12 from them after deliberation.

Here are the 12 high-resolution works, which must have been created through a lot of efforts.

SPR_winter

Winter by SPR is the work for January. Who could be the young man enjoying ice fishing in a valley? An orange light gleaming from the window of a cottage and a thick layer of snow covering the roof, the scene is giving a sense of serenity. As making a New Year’s resolution in January, I want to travel to a silent valley covered with a thick layer of snow. 

Grafixguru_Winter

Winter by Grafixguru, which describes a late winter scene, has been chosen for February. The snow hasn’t thawed yet, and a little warmer sunshine than January may have coaxed a baby deer to come out. He looks as if looking forward to spring, shaking snow off his antlers.

It’s March, the beginning of spring. A swallow has returned riding a spring breeze. She is smiling sitting on a twig. The scene is full of the typical freshness of spring with a balance of green background and a blue bird. “A Swallow” by hanna-aris.

April, with cherry trees in full bloom. A splendid scene full of cherry blossom is the very symbol of spring. Birds chirping, the world is getting pink. The scrupulous description by Shawnhoefer is utterly wonderful.

JS.P_Sillent – Spring

May, the queen of the seasons. While every living thing grows fast, the warmer weather makes us drowsy. JS.P describes a puppy dozing off while fishing under the shade of a mushroom. JS.P’ excellent representation has captured the details of the reflection on the water, glittering sunshine, and the shining fishing line.

SPR’s another work has been chosen for June. The leaves are getting darker and the sky is getting lower, which means summer is coming. The leisurely mood and fresh green grass and trees herald the beginning of summer.

Hanna-aris’s another work has been chosen for the contest as well. Her talent is impressive as a beginner. A long-haired girl has plunged herself into the sea to grasp a gem. Just looking at the picture is enough to make us cool. 

jandi_Enjoy Watermelon Island's summer!

August, the month for the summer vacation. Look at the Jandi’s imagination. The summer on the active water melon islands seems more exciting than any other water parks. Its makes us getting away right now. It seems that we have to go get a water melon now. 

kina_colada_Spring fling

Just take a look at the overall mood coming from kina_colada’s work. It has been chosen for September because the bronzed skin and blonde hair remind us of a goddess of the fall. The glittering hair style is also impressive.

MrRambo_autumn

Mr. Rambo represents a sunset on a field of reeds. It can make anybody think of the fall. The reddening sky and the reeds are making a perfect scene of the fall. It’s quite romantic.

Haze_Autumn

It’s the fall in maturity. The woman’s dress as well as the trees have been tinged with red. In the autumn by Haze, the entire world is getting red.

Anim’s work has been chosen for December, the Christmas season. Santa Claus is riding a wagon over the frozen lake. The heap of the presents behind him make me excited. The snowman below looks like Olaf.

[Postscript] Challenge of Novemver_Take a picture & Draw

During the month of November we spread our imagination over the pictures we took. 

You can fully enjoy the easy and accessible digital drawing by taking a picture with a smartphone and begin drawing immediately using s-pen. 

During this challenge, we realized once again the incredible imagination and sense of humor of our PENples. The pouring out of variety of styles drawings drawn over surrounding scenery, objects,selfies and animals made this challenge that much more enjoyable   

Let's see what kinds of works were uploaded with this challenge. 

First, we can tell by the changing expressions of the water cup in the drawing of Creyes, that the meal is quite satisfying. 

Kina_colada's mermaid in the cup received good reviews by many PENples. Isn't it brilliant?

Bacgyver's work looked like a coffee cup drawn over picture of a monkey but realized after having a closer look that it was a work with an amazing imagination where the monkey was drawn behind a picture of a foamed up coffee cup.

NicjFleri and pako drew over the pictures of their pets.

The people running away in fear from a place where the cat is staring at was quite impressive. Through the endearing stare of a puppy, pako we felt the warm exchange of hearts without any spoken words. 

There were some PENples that drew over their selfies. 

Diaa's work made us gasp as soon as we saw it and we were able to feel the incredible imagination that completes the picture.

I achieved the habit of becoming  more observant of my surroundings through this challenge. Also felt the attractiveness of giving birth to a fun and genius works by using a digital device to add on my imagination to the pictures.

[Epilogue] PEN.UP DAY in Galaxy Zone

How are you doing? Penple! Are you rounding off the year meaningfully?

For today, Ihave a story about the Nov 29th PEN.UPDAY held at the Galaxy Zone of COEX in Samsung-dong, Seoul. Now, let’s dive into the event, where the participants’ eyes were shining brightly more than ever!

#1. Preparation For The Event

Before opening the event, PEN.UP Team was very busy giving finishing touches to greet all of you. We couldn’t stop thinking how we could make the event more interesting. We seem to have made a lot of preparation, but there was still something we should have done.

This is the Galaxy Zone, the venue of today’s event, PENUPDAY. We have prepared refreshments and postcards which were made with wonderful works by Kim Minsoo, the host of today’s lecture.

Once the preparation was over, the participants started to arrive. Many picture lovers visited this PEN.UPDAY as ever. Even those who came for shopping at COEX gathered after seeing the artists lecturing.

#2. Opening – Introduction to PEN.UP DAY and artists(Greetings)

There was an introduction to PEN.UP, which was followed by presenting lecture’s theme and lecturers. For those who didn’t know PENUP very well, we showed various artworks uploaded onto PEN.UP as well as introducing challenges, HOF, and exhibits, etc. And there was an introduction to the main character of today’s lecture series, artist @miyune, which was followed by a discussion on the themes of mobile drawing lectures. The topic was “Drawing objects around us using Galaxy Note 4”. Initially, it seemed unfamiliar and difficult, but once the lecture had started, the participants showed an incredible concentration on the lecture, which was much more interesting than they might have thought.

#3. Mobile Drawing Lecture by artist “miyune”

                                -Today’s lecturer miyune.

He pointed out that the most important thing in finding character elements from objects is observant eyes and creativeness. Miyune said he pays a close attention to the appearances of objects. His imagination comes from them. Once various faces he found in objects were shown, laughter was heard here and there. 

Isn’t it funny? :-)

With the objects we pass by daily plus his own imagination, that’s the moment when his talent is shining. 

#4. Do-It-Yourself Time!

After learning from the lecturer how to get an inspiration from objects, Participantshad a time to draw on their own using Galaxy Note 4.

Participants asked questions of the artist, and then he gave various tips for mobile digital drawing individually.

An old couple, who were already using Galaxy Note, but never used digital drawing before, immersed themselves in drawing with the artist’s polite explanation. 

Some were still not familiar with drawing, but everybody was pleased and enjoyed drawing. Every individual piece was funny and unique.

#5. Now register for PENUP, and upload

Those who met PEN.UP for the first time were every surprised, by many picture lovers from around the world, and lots of wonderful pictures. And by the fact that all these pictures are digital drawings. It is really interesting that picture lovers can become PEN.UP friends. From now on, PENUP will find picture lovers and introduce PEN.UP to them, Help them to draw interesting pictures more easily.

[TIP] Joy of painting vol.2_mongpic

Let’s Learn about ‘mongpic’s Paintings Together Part2: Landscape Panting with Mood painting technique.

In this part, we will learn about Mood painting drawing technique which is quite similar to oil paintings.

The drawing class video allows us to learn easily how to draw step by step.

When it comes to landscape paintings, you need to utilize your imagination and creativity as much as you can for bolder and more natural art works. The biggest merit of Digital Painting is that you can correct what you’ve already drew very easily and that you can use the bold and various color palette.
