How do you think are Albus' parents in general like? (their personality before the horrible abuse of Ariana)

It really varies depending on the day for me lmao but I tend to see that Kendra always had a certain stoicness to her. Much warmer perhaps before what happened to Ariana, but still being somewhat more withdrawn than people usually are. (In a way, I think she almost became less stoic and a tiny bit more neurotic after what happened to Ari... perhaps relying too much on Albus at a too early age) I think Albus got a lot of his capability to be very logical and somewhat cold at times from her. I think she might have been the type to be uncomfortable to show too much of herself to strangers. Percival is the one I struggle the most with, esp with how present I think violence was before what happened to Ariana. I think a lot of parents would be capable of doing what he did, but I also think that it might not be too wrong to also note that he was the one that went after those kids and not Kendra. Yes yes the story demanded that Albus had another parent to lose, but well, I both sometimes think of him as a man with a temper and sometimes not. But the baseline idea is always that he is very loving of his family, for me. I don't think he, for example, ever would raise his hand against his children. I think he was much more emotional in general than Kendra outwardly. Perhaps particularly because he can afford himself more freedom in society in a way; I think he was a pureblood and he is a white man. Meanwhile, Kendra is a muggle-born woman, perhaps from America and heavily implied to be, if not native american, at least visibly not white. All three, potentially four (muggle-born, woman, poc and possibly an immigrant) I think lends to her perhaps feeling like she has less leeway to move about freely in their mixed muggle-wizard village, as she would be judged more perhaps than her husband if she acted in a way that was deemed as inappropriate. I think both Muriel and Elphias comments around her, plus Harrys description of her looks, all play into that characterisation for me.

A random characterisation I usually give them is that they are a bit weirded out by Albus. I think they loved him ofc but that they found him very unusual already from an early age in regards to his intellect and powers and didn't really know what to do with him, and might sometimes even be frustrated with him due to it, having a much easier time dealing with Abe and Ari because they were much more "normal" kids. Repeating here that they still loved him ofc!!

I also think Percival was Kendra's great love, and she sort of suffered a similar fate there as Albus; having to live the rest of her life knowing her soulmate was locked up for life, only in her case, the trauma there is greater in a way since she knew Percival didn't deserve it. (at least from her view, and honestly my own I think... yes you shouldnt torture kids but i think going after teens that hatecrimed your daughter still is understandable... I think she some days might have resented him for it though for leaving her so alone in this mess)

The mother, Kendra, had jet black hair pulled into a high bun. Her face had a carved quality about it. Despite the high-necked silk gown she wore, Harry thought of Native Americans as he studied her dark eyes, high cheekbones and straight nose.

He learned them at our mother's knee. Secret and lies that's how we grew up."

This is what we know of Kendra Dumbledore... My headcanon is that she was quite a harsh mother, loved her children and raised them well, but strict and cold all the same. Remember a lot of children that grow up to be the kindest beings also grew up in the coldest darkest households.

We also know that his father killed three muggle boys in an act of vengeance. Cold blooded murder. And Kendra being a muggle born witch makes you wonder a bit. She probably hates her heritage a bit after muggles destroyed her family, her love and her children. She clearly struggled even more so now being a single parent. And then we know that she was killed by Ariana. We see in Fantastic beasts, Obscurials lash out when threatened or dare say triggered. Makes you wonder why she lashed out on Kendra that day. Who knows. Maybe Kendra had enough, and seeing Ariana's worsening condition and suffering, wanted to end it before it got beyond her control. She couldn't help her back then... but maybe she can help her now.

And I believe that Albus agreed with her to some extent, deep down. He tried everything to save her nothing can reverse the damage done by those muggles.

Whereas Aberforth isn't as realistic or pessimistic, doesn't see his sister as anything but his sister, thus being her favourite.

But what would their family dynamic be like if none of this happened? I see that in most fics they are depicted as happy... the parents in love, the siblings are very close and healthy relationships with there parents. But I don't think that would be the case at all.

Firstly, Albus would most definitely have been outcasted/disowned due to his preferences for men.

Everything we know about his parents would strong suggest this, and the evidence lies in Aberforth Dumbledore. His behaviour and response towards Albus and Gellert's 'closeness' that summer speaks volumes. This is learnt behaviour from parent to child. Albus learnt to keep secrets from a very young age, from his mother's knee.

Conclusion is if Albus dumbledore's family had lived without tragedy, tragedy would find him anyway, and the villainous potential this character has will forever be in my mind. Maybe I should write a grindeldore fic about this.

Hii, I just wanted to tell you that I really loovee your work 😍, 'finders keepers' somehow managed to make me root for riddledore even though I'm a die hard grindeldore shipper😅

I adore how you characterise everyone and (sorry if you already got this ask before) wanted to ask how you see Percival und Kendra Dumbledores dynamic, not only as parents but also as lovers

I'm always so happy to share with Finders readers! It's my baby but it's so niche i'm not sure half the time anyone is actually reading it ahaha

My view of the Dumbledore's is a bit grim tbh.

I HC Kendra seduced pure blood heir Percival hoping to elevate herself in magical society (i see her extremely ambitious and a bit cold and ruthless like her eldest son ahah)

Percival I see him like a hothead man with a bit of a rebelious streek. He fall hard for her and marry her on a whim.

Thing didnt turned out good for them and Percival's family shun him away and they find themselves poor and having to work hard to raise their kids. Kendra was probably preg with Albus before they even married ahaha

Percival, like most rich people didnt adjust well to poverty and became a bit bitter and drank a lot to forget about it. Kendra was bitter too I guess but she pushed all her ambition on Albus so she dealed with it better.

Still I think they did love each other at the end but in a cold a bit distant way. I mean they are children of Victorian era xD

That's why Albus believe hard in love even if it's tough and cruel love. 🤔
