New headcanon about SkyWings:

I’ve been thinking about Sky and Peril a lot. Here are some Things that I came up with (mixed in with some stuff that’s just canon or common headcanon).

Firstly, yeah, I think Sky is trans. That’s almost canon at this point. He probably doesn’t ‘pass’ if such a term exists in dragon culture, but hey, no transphobia from the society, confirmed by the author herself! Everyone just lets him live his best boy life! Hell yes!

Secondly, I think that the SkyWings, especially before Ruby’s time, were very religious with their egg-hatching process. They would leave an egg out facing the sky (every egg is left alone with either a parent or another caring party, but there are no mass hatcheries). Any deviation from standard hatching procedures is frowned upon.

The hatching process of eggs containing twins is slightly different. They are kept much higher up, for fear (read: superstition) that the sky spirits will not notice the dragonets individually otherwise, cursing them to never truly find themselves because they share a soul.

Egg theft is not a common practice, but if it does happen, these higher nests are usually targeted because the altitude makes them less easy to visit and protect regularly. The egg Hvitur stole was probably a twin egg, and he was probably exhausted (eggs-hausted, anyone?) from the thin air and long flight.

Peril and Sky’s egg was also left in the high mountains, but when touched, one side was warm, the other stone cold. Kestrel was sure Sky would never survive when the egg finally hatched.

MAJOR spoilers for my Cadmium AU (also known as ‘Wings of Fire: What if The SkyWing had Survived?’) up ahead:

Cadmium and Flame were fraternal twins, not identical twins. As described, they have drastically different scale colours and patterns, along with Cadmium’s slightly crooked tooth, a minor detail and a trait Avalanche has too that I mentioned in a recent chapter.

They do, however, have the same spine, wing and claw shape, as well as the same eyes and a similar shape to them. They are about as similar as normal twins.

My idea of how this happened is that Avalanche was a dragon on the inside, there to give Hvitur the egg and leave, raising little suspicion, but when the egg hatched into two dragonets instead of one, Avalanche had to return and take one of them back to Nautilus. She chose Flame, further isolating himself from both the real and false dragonets of destiny.

Tweaked peril design!

I took the sketch I did for my skywing poll and edited some parts, though I do think she is a bit plumpy for a skywing… I’ll change that when I redraw it.

I’m quite proud of this, I haven’t posted a full peice on here besides my first one with my OC reith, hope you guys like it!

A concept that’s been rattling around in my head for a while now. Peril with a firesuit that cools down her body temperature enough to where she no longer has to worry about burning everything she touches. The suit comes off in multiple pieces, and its cooling mechanism is either animus-enchanted or powered by concetrated IceWing breath passing through tubes running throughout the suit, with the most tubes being concentrated in areas that radiate the most heat (underside of wings, bottom of paws, etc.). The suit itself is designed to be easy for Peril to get on and off without help, but whether it actually is easy to get on-and-off is up for debate. Not pictured is a face guard with a metal visor that Peril can flip up whenever she needs to eat or drink.

Can we get a picture of Peril holding balls of fire in her talons? Not like shooting fire, she straight up blew fire into the air and grabbed at it and because she is a living campfire who I firmly believe everyone uses to cook their Smores she is able to keep it burning while holding it and thus uses it in combat.
