Hi there. Hope you’re well!
I don’t know if there’s a term for the area of skin between the opening of the vagina and the anus?? Kind of yucky but every now and again I get what I think are pimples on it? Maybe ingrown hairs but they seem to come up randomly so probably not
Anyway because of the sensitive area these are in, how likely are they to become infected? I haven’t ever had an issue with this before but recently I thought about it and it’s been scaring me a lot. I’ve typically just ignored them, maybe took extra care towards the spot for a day or so, but do you have any specific advice for caring for them in future? Is it safe to try to treat them with a product? Should I just take extra care with hygiene until they go away? Is this not as big of a deal as I’m worried it could be?
Thanks in advance for whatever your response is. ❤️
Hi! I actually think, in a weird way, despite my shitty physical condition, that I am doing well and I hope you are too! 💓
There is a term! The area between your genitals and anus is called your perineum and it can absolutely get pimples and ingrown hairs, just like the rest of your body. So its fairly likely if they look and behave like pimples/ingrown hairs, that's what they are.
As for how likely it is for them to get infected, it kind of depends on how sweaty you get in that area regularly and how clean you keep it when you're having a breakout! If they're ingrown hairs, infection is more likely but if you haven't had to take out any hairs and they don't always appear on the same spots on the perineum, they're probably pimples.
Which aren't too likely to get infected as long as you keep the area clean (and I don't mean roughly cleaning it or trying to sanitize the area; just make sure its not covered in crud, use some water if you need to and be gentle) and dry!
And even if they get infected, its not an immediate 'oh you're fucked'. Just keep them clean and maybe try some gentle heat, preferably from something like a warm washcloth, on and off, to try and take down any inflammation and ease out any fluids.
As for products, a lot of products aren't good to put around your genitals! I'm not really sure which would be or how many count the perineum in that, especially since I don't know what products you're referring to specifically.
What I can say is that its definitely not a big issue unless you're currently having excessive, dangerous issues with infections and hygiene.
It sounds like you're doing very well. Just a little extra care is generally all you need and a little extra 'shut the fuck up, its okay' to the anxious cynic in your head.
You're very welcome! I hope something here is a little helpful at least. 👍
