MLM Shipping
i enjoy mlm shipping, so long as it doesn't come at the cost of hurting or hating the female characters in the story. What i mean by this is Annabeth Chase, Piper Mclean, Rachel Dare and especially Calypso get unreasonable amount of hate.
You can like Valgrace, Persico, Jasico, Jercy, Jaleo, love them do fanarts of them and write cutesy or angsty fics about them. I will read them all and nod along your arguments on how, why and they should have ended up together. That's what fiction and fan fiction is about.
What i don't like is the hatred the female characters get for being in a relationship with either of the male characters in the story.
Annabeth is sometimes intense and can come across arrogant, but that does not make her toxic or a horrible human being. They're flaws not death sentences.
Piper hate effeminate things because effeminate girls made her life a living hell and patriarchy demonizes effeminate women all time everywhere in media as well. The very media Piper grew up on.
Again its sad but realistic. If we ever get a story about Piper in her 20s or 30s she might have changed those views by then. Because right now, she's a child and is learning still.
And she's an unlabeled sapphic. You might find it confusing but get guess what, so does she. Her memories were messed with and she had months of fake memories implanted. That can make anyone's head spin. Even when she broke up with Jason, she still cared deeply about him. Was letting Mellie and Hedge believe that It was Jason's fault for breaking up with her, wrong yes. But Hedge and Mellie are adults who knew Jason from the start. Its really on them for not communicating properly. And they shouldn't be hating a literal child for a break up. Teenagers break up sometimes. Does not mean the the two were evil or cruel. They're young people that want to learn new things, who will change and grow.
Rachel kissed a boy that everyone in this fandom would jump to kiss at any given opportunity, yet they have the nerve to shame her? FFS even Annabeth was not as vicious to her as some of you are.
Finally Calypso. Maybe you have valid reasons to not like her relationship with Leo. Maybe the age gap or the curse she placed on Annabeth are the factors that you use to dislike. Understandable. Calypso according to myths is very old but her mind and body are stuck at 16 as stated by RR . Think of it as the vampire situation in a way. Ala the Wimpy Vampire series situation.
As for the curse, she placed that out of desperation and grief over being forgotten again. How long has she been trapped ? Percy showed her hope. But she was left behind and was all by herself again for another long stretch time. Wouldn't that hurt and make you desperate as well . It was wrong of her to place that curse but the amount of hate she receives is worse than Kronos sometimes.
Someone brought up Odysseus from the older myths. Well here's the thing. Percy Jackson series all the characters RR wrote are basically fanfics of a really old religion. And in this Fanfic RR changed or tweaked the lore Calypso . So regardless of the 'True Cannon' lore about Calypso. In this story RR stated it was consensual so we have to take his word on it.
In the end ship and love whichever you want but don't spread unnecessary hate, especially towards female characters . Hating a female character for getting in the way of your favorite MLM ship is just plain unnecessary.
