i'm considering going vegetarian, maybe pescetarian.
i'm an animist; animism is defined by the oxford english dictionary as "the attribution of a living soul to plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena." this means i believe souls can inhabit any form of nature, i.e. trees, rivers, rocks, air, animals, etc. i am comfortable with decentralised farming practices, where you can buy animal products from small independently-owned farms that treat their animals and plants the way you're comfortable with. i view consuming animal products as a relationship i have with my environment.
however, one of the treatments of animals i am against is forced impregnation and continuous breeding. this would mean i'm not comfortable with consuming dairy from an animal who is artificially inseminated. however, chickens, e.g., do not need to be fertilised to produce eggs. therefore i'm comfortable consuming chicken eggs.
in terms of consuming animal meat, i believe meat proteins and fats are necessary to some peoples' diets and i do not condemn it. however, i am not comfortable with the slaughterhouse industry. ideally i would want animals at least put down painlessly the same way as pets and criminals given the death sentence, and given excessive respect, i.e. given extra human-animal social attention and care, a last meal they'd very much enjoy, extra time playing with the other livestock. even then obviously i don't like consuming another living being, but it's necessary to certain people's diets.
i do not like hunting. animals do not go into shock as humans do, therefore they're fighting and afraid and in pain every second since they've been shot or trapped. i would prefer that they were shot with a sedative and then put down so they don't feel pain and fear. i also want more responsibility with hunting; you must be fully trained in shooting a rifle, you must be fully capable of being efficient when shooting an animal. if you are going to miss or only graze the animal on a shot you should not be hunting.
i'm more comfortable with fishing because you don't have to mass farm them, and if they get off your line at least they got the bait as a reward for their struggle. again, i would like for there to be some sort of sedative on bait or a spear so they can be hunted more efficiently and with less struggle and fear on their part.
i'm going to finish the meat i have this week, but after that i think i'm going to try out being pescetarian. i'm going into this understanding the possibility that i may regretably have to reintroduce animal products, as i already struggle with being underweight and have been iron deficient in the past.
if you have any arguments or suggestions, i'm open to them, just please be respectful and calm. i may or may not agree with you, and you may or may not agree with me. that's okay. thank you.

pescetarianism is usually considered by either inclusive or exclusive definitions to be a diet that for sure contains fish and vegetables, but may or may not include animal products like eggs and milk. some definitions define it as lacking land animal meat, others consider it as specifically non-red meat or poultry, and yet others only describe it as solely fish and plant based proteins. So, by any of these definitions,

Fish and potato bake in a chilli tahini sauce. To make this I sliced potatoes and arranged them in a baking try. I then topped the potatoes with sliced onions, red peppers, courgettes and tomatoes. I then added tahini/taratoor sauce made from tahini , garlic, lemon, water, fresh parsley and chilli and poured it on top. I like mine extra garlicky and lots of lemon. I put the fish bake to cook for an hour at 190° before topping with a mixture of fish and extra sauce on top and left to cook for a further 20 minutes. Before serving I topped with extra freshly parsley. . . . . . . . . . . . #fishbake #fishpie #potatoes #pescetarian #pescetarianism #fish #fishpotato #garlic #lemon #peppers #courgettes #pie #seafood #paleofriendly #healthyeating #wholesome #instafood #comfortfood #foodie #delicious #dinner #meals #recipeideas #mummyblogger #tahini #powerfood #chilli #spicyfood
