You ever think about how funny it would be if The Lizard from Spider-Man had that same atavism, but instead of making him a violent monster it worked more to make him act like real lizards?
IE the sort of goofy nonsense anyone with a pet gecko or snake has experience with, real "Mommy I dropped my crimket" energy.
