The words stab into Philip like daggers, each syllable another thrust of the knife into his heart. He knows it’s just a pathetic, agitated insult. And he knows that Eacker doesn’t mean it, but he can’t help but take great offence.

His father is his role model. So usually, to be told that he was like his father, would be a compliment to one of the highest degrees. But hearing the words, ‘dork’ and ‘your father’, in the same sentence sends Philip into a surging, bubbling fit of rage.

Philip slams his hands on the desk that George is sitting at in a red hot fury. “What the hell did you just say!?” He spat like boiling water.

“I just called you a dork, it’s cu-“ George gets cut off by Philip grabbing the collar of Eacker’s grey shirt.

“You called my father a ‘dork’, I don’t appreciate it,” he hissed through his front teeth, tongue slicking between the teeth as if he were a snake.

George laughs and leans back in partial fear. “It was a compliment? Being a dork is cute! It’s real cute!” He insists.

“My dad, is not cute!”

“Pip, I think you’re freaking out a little too much.” George released himself from Philip’s grip and shoves him away.

“I never overreact!”
