The new phone law in Ohio (for schools) is “you’re not allowed to communicate at all”

They also banned smart watches. And flip phones. And literally anything and everything that can be used to call an adult in an emergency. Not just smart phones.

This is genuinely going to be an issue- especially in a world where there are school shootings, rape, and drug use. At least with a phone you have the ability to have evidence and contact either a trusted adult or authorities.

But with nothing??? That’s a safety issue that’s far greater than “phone addiction”

BESIDES PEOPLE WILL BREAK THE RULES ANYWAYS YOU CANT SEARCH BAGS SO WHAT EVEN IS THE POINT WHEN ITS NOT ENFORCEABLE???

**doesn't have to be a diagnosed condition, it's enough if you feel uncomfortable when you have to be away from the internet/social media

school phone policy rant and vent kinda

i hate school phone policys because why are you so strict about a fucking eletronic but not about bullying yeah i know that phones are bad for your mental health but bullying is way worse and you do jack shit (and i know from experiance) when i pull out my phone because i have nothing else to do and all my work is finished i get my phone sent to the office get a detintion and get my parent called (1st time btw) but when i tell you that someone is bullying me you do jack shit when i tell you for 6 fucking years until covid hit (which how did covid save my ass from bullying and if covid didnt happend i probly would have killed my self) bullying which you guys watched happen and did nothing about destroyed my mental health made me want to die had me pray for death and made me want to run away from home so i could stop being bullied (this was all in elementary school) why are you so strict about the phone policy when you do nothing (and at best a slap on the wrist) aboit bullying

gonna state my opinion on the phone ban instated in virginia (and other us states) since it’s supposed to get a hell of a lot heavier when we come back from winter break!!

unpopular opinion: do i think it’s ok for the phones to be taken/away during class time? yes. as a student, i have seen firsthand the benefits that come from banning phones during class time. students are engaged with the lesson, therefore not ruining the lesson for those who want to learn.

*HOWEVER*: i think students should be given permission to take phones with them when they leave the room, and they should have permission to use them in lunch and study hall. we live in an era where you never know when violence could be lurking in your schools. a student not having access to a cellphone when they’re out of the classroom could be the very difference between life and death in this country.

yes, and the reason for that is that gun violence and other tragedies were not *nearly* as prevalent as they are today.

fast forward to january of 2025, and our phones are going to be taken from us for ALL hours of the day. this is actually dystopian and a threat to our safety. i don’t mind some level of phone restriction, but not letting us have our phones point blank period? too fucking far. i am nervous to go back to school out of fear for my safety, and glenn youngkin is the one to blame.

-my old school just start a phone policy that allows students to use their phones in the hallways

-they also allow students to wear skirts & shorts to finger tip length but you can show your shoulders or tummy
