wish lion's mane jellyfish would stop doing that
doing what?
i was going to say doing THAT
but apparently this photo is fake which is an enormous burst of relief to my already fragile, suddering psyche.
sadly though THIS photo of a barrel jellfish is real
don’t like that
Yeah sure that photo is fake, but what ISN'T fake is the fact that the largest lion's mane jellyfish found was about 36 meters long. The average blue whale is about 25 meters long btw.
Here if you'd like to see it:
we DO NOT TALK ABOUT TENTACLE LENGTH that is VERBOTEN
damn, the girth on those tendrils tho
WE DO NOT TALK ABOUT TENTACLE GIRTH
Idk what the fuck yall talken about but I see jellyfish and by god do I love dem on bread.
Some of my favorite jellyfish (sorry if I go on a tanget and vear off jellyfish)
are the Stygiomedusa gigantea, which I believe is also called the blanket jellyfish, but like dude look up a video of it moving it is chilling and fantastic! This thing is 10 meters long, so not the largest here, but ohohoho look at my love
It is a deep sea jellyfish and is one of the largest invertebrate predators known. However, according to Cambridge, it has been consistently recorded in the twilight and sunlight depth zones down south so do with that what you will :)
If we want to keep going down the large and length category of ocean creatures, allow me to introduce the current longest recorded ocean animal. A deep sea siphonophore that clocks in at around 46 meters; my beautiful death halo
Technically siphonophores are hundreds upon hundreds of tinier organisms that grouped together to make a bigger one, but for all intents and purposes, this is one animal. Some of them are incredibly beautiful!
However there is also ones not so pretty, main one was something I saw a month or so ago and it looked like someone had fused like a dozen human limbs together and they were flailing to move and jesus christ yall can go mentally scar yourselves.
Man I can’t find a good picture but Deepsea Oddities has a really good video on them (and on other ocean related things… mostly deep sea)
Oh hey, I drew a siphonophore mermaid awhile back, or as I like to call her (them?) a siphonosiren.
At what point did you all first have an inkling about James Flint's fine homosexual qualities?
1x01 (Do not lie to me. There was no real reason to consider it at this point.)

1x05/1x06 (Why?)
1x07 (Flint-Miranda Fight for the Ages)
2x01 (Why?)
2x02 (It is not good that he is alone. And the moral of the story?...)/other
2x03/2x04 (When?)
2x05 pt. 1 (If before the Scene—when?)

Had already known it going into Black Sails

Make a guy

There are lots of reasons why fandom is "quieter" now than it used to be. Some theories are more compelling to me than others, and they all have a different scale of impact. We'll never know for sure, of course, but I like to think about it. Thus, this poll.
Of the list below, which reason do you find most compelling or do you think had the biggest impact?
New entrants to fandom don't know the old ways
fandom olds didn't teach the newcomers how to fandom
covid/surge in fandom due to quarantine and lockdowns
"antis" and other harassment campaigns against creators
creators posting complaints about comments (people worry about commenting wrong)
rise of discord popularity - fandom is walled off from each other
tumblr porn ban and other reasons people left the site
capitalism turning fandom into a passive "view and move on" commodity
rules from social media impacting fan culture (eg. don't comment on old posts)
general state of the world / burnout
social anxieties in an increasingly complex online culture
"surveillance state" worries and not wanting to be perceived
This is an incomplete list, so if your most compelling reason isn't listed, feel free to add it in the notes.

pls… i beg of you… reblog creations… or else there won’t be any more creations
it makes me so sad to see so many creators talking in the tags about how they’re not creating as much because less and less people are interacting. this is proof that interaction is vital. this is proof that a lack of interaction leads to discouraged creators and leads to less creations. liking—and only liking—does not encourage creators.
and that’s because (1) the purpose of this website is to share things that bring us joy and (2) likes don’t share things or ensure something is seen by more people, not like they do on other sites. so, when so many people decide to only like a post and not share it (i.e. not reblog it), that tells the creator that those people didn’t think their hard work was worth sharing with others. that’s discouraging.
and the creator isn’t the only one that gets something out of that. you get something, too. you get the joy of sharing something you like; that’s a meaningful experience for both you and for the creator. and that experience—that interaction—encourages the creator to create more, and so there’s more joy to be had for both you and the creator.
long story short, interaction (i.e., reblogging, which is interaction in its simplest form on this site) brings joy. it’s literally all about the joy, people. the joy in discovering and sharing and appreciating and marveling at creations. so please reblog—for everyone’s sake, including your own.
REBLOG!! Support content creators!
@calkale this made me think of your recent post ab the role of “bigger” content creators in fandom spaces — ppl with large followings who don’t participate in sharing content, ESPECIALLY smaller creators’ content. Ik I said it’s cringe to put yourself on a pedestal “above” the rest of the fandom but at the same time these guys do have substantial influence in those spaces.
I’m not actively involved with many online fandoms but I’m gonna take Marvel for example, just for the scale. Huge following. Undoubtedly large number of content creators, most of whom are gonna stay under the radar due to the sheer volume of people involved. I’m not familiar with the Marvel fandom dynamics but can you imagine if one of the more popular artists or writers actively shared content that wasn’t just the new fanart of the week from the other super popular artist? How many smaller artists would EXPLODE with engagement?
I’m not saying popular content creators are obligated to interact with less popular ones, or “less talented” ones, but it’s not about that—not about securing numbers. It’s more of…you have an exclusive power to help this space thrive. You have been the less popular or less talented creator at one point, hoping for more. Pay it forward.
Sorry if this is just a regurgitation of basically everything you already said but damn ts made me think about it even more.
