Dear fellow pirate lovers:
This whole Roberts vs Blackbeard debate is getting tiresome. We get it, Bart Roberts was a trillion times more successful. But Blackbeard is more famous and he didn’t even have to put in that much work, that’ll never change. I mean just let people like the historical figures that they like regardless of how famous or overrated they are. I mean, I think both of ‘em are pretty cool.
PLUS: Ching Shih blows both of them clean out of the water anyway, COMBINED and NOBODY talks about her, isn’t that a bit of a crime right there?

Potc Theory
When Elizabeth was little, she took interest in pirates. Jack is a legend of the sea, so of course there would be books about him. Elizabeth would get books and one of the legends she would read was about Captain Jack Sparrow, the most wanted pirate of the Caribbean along with his first mate, Hector Barbossa.
As Elizabeth said on Rumrunners Island, she read about the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow and his adventures, so I imagine she would be a fan of Jack.
When Jack saved Elizabeth from drowning, once she woke up she didn't know who it was, but she kept her distance. Remember that she always wanted to meet pirates and was eager to know more about him. Later, Norrington revealed that the pirate was Jack, so I think Elizabeth was freaking out inside like "it's actually him"
That's why she wanted to save his life, and she knew deep inside that he's actually a good man and doesn't want to show it.
Elizabeth is a pirate fangirl just like the rest of us
When I first heard and saw tumblr about Our Flag Means Death I was like aww yea gay pirates my favorite! This’ll be a nice little thing and then I realized that Ed was short for Edward Teach(Blackbeard) and I was like oh shit, still awesome but definitely gonna stir the pirate fandoms pot one way or another
