Day 30: Trick
During their time together on this adventure, Wind had managed to play a trick on almost everyone.
Nothing that would harm any of his fellow heroes—he wasn’t trying to be mean. A few pinecones in a boot, switching tunics from their bags, hanging a cloak from a tree so it looked like a ghost. The other heroes took it all in good fun, which he was grateful for. Sometimes these guys needed to lighten up!
But the one he hadn’t done anything to yet was the Captain. Wind had been wracking his brain trying to think of a good trick to play on him. Meanwhile it was luring Warriors into a false sense of security, he’d actually commented that he must be Wind’s favourite and that’s why he’d been spared.
Oh, was he in for a surprise.
After a long day’s walk, the heroes had finally stopped for the night. The sun was setting, but it wasn’t fully dark yet as the heroes gathered around the campfire to wait for Wild to finish making dinner. Wind made his way over, holding his spyglass and fiddling with it as he settled in on the log next to Warriors.
Wind was extending and compacting the spyglass over and over—a common thing for him to do when idle.
He extended it and then held it up just in front of his eye, peering through at Hyrule and Legend across the fire. “Huh, it’s not working.”
“What do you mean, sailor?” Warriors asked.
“I look through and I can’t see anything,” Wind said before sighing dramatically. “I hope it’s not broken.”
“Here, let me take a look,” Warriors took it and held it right up against his eye. “I can see just fine through it, Wind.”
“Oh that’s weird,” Wind said, barely holding in his laughter.
Warriors pulled the spyglass away only to reveal a big black ring around his eye. He nearly jumped at the sound of Legend bursting into cackles.
“Oh Wind, I knew you wouldn’t let us down,” Legend roared as he fell to his knees. By then the others had noticed and laughter rang throughout the camp.
Warriors was utterly confused until he got up and went to their collection of stuff and looked into the veteran’s mirror shield.
“Oh you little blige rat!” He shouted with a hint of laughter in his voice. He wiped off the grease with a rag before heading back to the fire and grabbing Wind and pulling him into a headlock and ruffling his hair. “And here I thought you liked me best!”
The laughter around the fire warmed Wind’s heart. Anything he could do to make his brothers happy, even for a little while, he was glad to do.
