🚨👾 ARCHIVAL ANNOUNCEMENT: BETA ACCESS INITIATED 👾🚨
(AKA: I had a realization brighter than one of Elias's many, many eyes: I can post a beta version on itch.io!)
🔗 First time here? Read the intro post!
That's right! If you're brave enough to venture into the unfinished, slightly janky depths of the archives, you can now play a very early, work-in-progress build of the game!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: break my code, judge my writing, and report any spooky bugs you find. (Please remember: this is a VERY early build with placeholder art!)
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
The Archives are open for new statements. To access the latest beta build on itch.io, use the following credentials:
Password: StatementGiverAccess-0251021 This password grants you the clearance level of a provisional Statement Giver. Please do not share this clearance outside the Institute.
Want to be eternally credited for your service? DM me with any spooky bugs you find! 🙏
⚠️ What to expect in this build: Get into the Institute, talk to Rosie (and enjoy a cuppa!), and very briefly meet Elias! 'Tis a vibe. ✨
🔄 Update Schedule: I'll try to drop a new beta version every 3-4 weeks! The beta access password gets updated with each new release, so be sure to check this post often to get the newest version!
If you wanna help out with future scenes/art, check out this post!

(Yes, they are based upon the tf2 mercs! And the paint bucket tool kinda blurred their colors a bit... all pictured are "red team")
-"Knockov" Gang -
A substantial bunch of weirdos (One blue team, one red) who were left behind while playtesting in a testing space when Caine cleared away room for other adventure worlds. They've been entertaining themselves, mostly with violence, but are a rather close community otherwise. The Red PIROE is the one who found a "path" back to the circus, and befriends Ragatha. The others rotate in and out, concerningly unbothered by the idea of Caine catching wind of them.
----
-PIROE-
a Knockov Team avatar who's color schemes are a bit at odds with the teams they are on. The blue one is fascinated by special effects in the Digital world - not just fire, but clouds, electricity, physical representations of wind, etc. The Red one is the first to make it back to the Digital Circus and befriend Ragatha, childishly enjoying the various rooms while everyone else is on an adventure.
-SKOWT / SKWT-
Speedster class avatars with a slight earwig-like look, the blue and red members of this class have named themselves slightly differently to set themselves apart (SKWT and SKOWT, respectively). The red one is traumatized after almost glitching into the Void while exploring collisions and geometry. While the blue version is the one who finds "props" for the Knockovs to use in their own games to pass the time in their test areas.
-SPI-
Playtesters who were slotted into a shadowy stealth class, the SPI Knockovs are perhaps the most active in looking for exploits of the digital realm. The Red one typically likes to laze about and relax while the blue one is much more proactive, and has figured out how to record the Knockov's various activities for playback. The only ones able to understand the PIROEs.
-INJEE-
The playtesters put into supportive building class, the INJEEs are fishlike avatars who like to understand the physics of the digital realms various elements. The two attempt to safely test these ideas out, and are able to make new things the other Knockov members brainstorm and suggest. The Red INJEE spends her time thinking of theories and conspiracies - including the idea that Caine is actually well aware of the Knockovs, and the blue INJEE makes sure everything is organized and works as it should.
-HEVY-
Large, boxy, tanky, Beetle-like Players who like to team up and write out various scripts, scenarios, and ideas for the Knockovs to act out - from the grounded to the wacky. The blue HEVY is a deep thinker who likes peace and quiet, while the red one is more of a dummy who likes action and is able to make digital food - all starting from his interest in a teapot he found. Both are physically the toughest of the Knockovs, so they're common guinea pigs for new elements and cosmetics. When glitching entities have appeared, they are the most capable against them.
-DEMO-
Knockov playtesters who's class are explosives-based, out of the two teams the DEMOs are the members most vitriolic to each other, butting heads and trying to one up the other as grumpy rivals. Otherwise the blue one tends to handle sounds and audio, while the red one handles textures. The blue one often joins in on Red INJEEs brainstorming theories, and personally believes that the Digital realm is just completely abandoned.
-SNYPR-
A couple of sniper avatars who help make the rules for the Knockovs games and scenarios. the red SNYPR generally is the heart of things, willing to give advice to her fellow playtesters, while the blue one is more of an authority figure/disciplinarian for when things really get out of hand outside of the fun. The blue SNYPR is the one who discovered "Glitches" in their space, entities that randomly began to show up after Caine accidentally left the Knockovs to their own devices.
-ZOLJUR-
Wild, risk-taking and creative, the two ZOLJURs are actual twin siblings, blue is willing to volunteer for pretty much anything and helps the more shy red, who likes to design things within the playtester's areas - which is typically the start of any of the games or activities the Knockovs eventually plan out for everyone to participate in. Out of everyone, they fear Caine the most, and treat their excursions into the Circus like stealth missions, exploring this strange new space by hiding as objects (their breath-holding skill), and even staying in unoccupied rooms.
-DCTR-
Out of the duos, the two "DCTRs" stuck in the healing class perhapsare the most creepily in sync, even though the red one is definitely more personable than the much more unreadably quiet blue. They seem to be gathering assets from other adventures for something, using the ZOLJURS and SKWT for this end. Otherwise they are curious about the relationship between senses of those trapped in the Digital plane and the various native elements therein. The Glitch entities and phenomena have also caught their interest.
(Blue variants will be shown next post.)
Playtester Applications Are Open!
To fully test Episode 2's in-progress material before its public launch later in the spring/summer, I am expanding Wayfarer’s playtester team. If this is of interest to you, please check out the information below.
What Does Playtesting Entail?
Playtesters play the alpha build in search of bugs, continuity errors, and typos. They are essentially an extra set of eyes on the game before new content goes for public release.
Because Wayfarer’s gameplay includes hundreds of choices and many, many variations that build on each other, playing multiple times and checking out different options is essential for testing to make sure each area of the game functions as intended.
The Nitty Gritty
You must be 18+.
Playtesting is a volunteer position.
You will be credited in-game as a playtester (this is opt-in).
All communication with the playtesting team is done through the private playtester-only section of Wayfarer's Discord server. You must be willing to be active in that part of the server and submit your bug reports through the designated channels. I do not accept playtester bug reports through any other method. If you are not active, you will be removed from the playtester role.
You must keep the playtester build link and password private. As a playtester, you are trusted not to share the alpha build's content.
If at any point you are no longer interested or do not have the time to be involved, you can opt out, no questions asked!
This round of playtesting will be for Episode 2. You must be available to playtest during May, June, and possibly July 2022.
In addition, I am looking for a few playtesters who are willing to playtest with less popular MC configurations, including:
Male MCs
MCs who use custom pronouns
Dwarven MCs
Child of the Fields & Child of the City origins
Rindan Cenric as your mentor

Thank you! 💕
Did you know people from different countries play Metal Gear differently? At least that's what Hideo Kojima says.

Hey,
I just read your offer to help me navigate the entire Beta situation and I am humbly asking for any help you can give. LOL! I know I need one because I spent an entire month editing and still missed a lot. But, how do I even go about the process of all of this?
Thank you so much for helping. I really do appreciate it.

I gotchu ☺️ Just sent you a pretty long private message on how to get started with all this, but if anyone else ever has any questions on this (or anything else) I'm always happy to share whatever knowledge I can ❤️
✨Hey would you be down to become a play tester for a small indie game’s developments?✨
Hey! I’m Kai, a game artist student and I’m currently busy developing a small game experience by myself for a school assignment.
This game is called remnants of the forgotten and is based on a dream I once had. For this assignment I would like the player to experience said dream as well trough the medium of a short video game.
For this game it would help me immensely if I could occasionally test some things out with the target audience. (Think for example people’s thought on concept art, a test run in the game if it has the right feeling and or if the player understands where to go.)
For my assignment it is very important that I have tested my game with my target audience. So to find out who qualifies as my target audience I made a short form of 13 easy questions.
Would you be interested? Than please fill in the form below! ✨

After the playtests are over I’ll be putting the names of the people who qualified as my target audience, and helped me, in a little lottery and pulling 1 random name out. As a gift said winner will receive a free (2D) art commission. This could be a character ref sheet for an oc as example, fan art or an icon. (I do not do backgrounds unless they are simple.)
So if you would like to help a game student out and make a chance at receiving art in exchange, please fill in my form ✨ Thanks in advance!
(Some examples of my art below! I can draw humans, creatures, furries, slightly suggestive stuff is fine but I don’t do outright N-S-F-W.)
