"MY BONES THEY CRACKLE .....my bones they crackle."
-A.BLOOD
I was crying when I was born. Since then, I do not think I have ever stopped. Are we all weeping? Are we?
Comédia
Dentre tantas musas e moças,
o teu brilho foi o único que cósmica dramaturgia
- tão majestosamente -
encenou,
a ponto de que o próprio Dionísio - sóbrio - a contemplou.
Apolo a cortejou,
em música e belas artes se apoiou,
ainda assim,
você o recusou.
Ares,
por sua alma,
contendas travou.
E você,
eloquentemente o rejeitou.
Como um espectro,
para além do Rio Lete você foi.
Aonde não há como lhe acompanhar.
Onde a própria memória perfará.
E tão belo espectro nunca mais se expressará.
"flicker, narrow, burn, freeze. it is like dipping my fingers into a pool of crystalline waters. the deep blue-green inching up my arm like ink. i have never seen anything else so full of life. i will sink in them. i won't kick or flounder, i will lay, still as anything. i will watch as i get dragged down, plunging because of the weight of the joy in your soul. i will drown, as your eyes are not like night, nor day but dusk. your eyes are like the first mist of the twilight. i will bathe in the light as the gods bathe in ambrosia." you tempt me, like the sun tempted icarus. will i fall, or will i fly?"
- look at me in anger or joy, cupid. i will always love the colour of your eyes.
I cannot figure out if I wish to feel something, or rather feel nothing at all.
they keep calling it a disorder but oh god wouldnt anyone feel this way? isnt to be traumatised by trauma just to be human?
she says no, go to therapy. i nod.
Class Of 2020 (a rant in the form of a poem)
Welcome to adulthood! you survived 18 years! yes, you can shed tears, though many say "what for?" But you're trapped in isolation, there will be no celebration, no you don't get compensation unless you basically dirt poor.
It's a shove into adulthood that's way ahead of schedule, the government's in shambles, the media's just brambles, not acting like it should.
History is just repeating itself, go ahead, grab that book off the shelf, you'll see the cycle of plauge after plauge, each a century apart, descriptions not vague.
Only months in, there's deaths by the thousands, numbers keep counting and your strength's wearing thin. You grab a distraction, action after action, stability is fractions of what it had been.
The CDC says to quarentine, keep things clean, seam to seam, but you're not "living the dream" and you need food to survive. So you try to earn some money, minimum wage if you're lucky, spreading disease, yes it's yucky, but maybe you'll stay alive.
There's no escape from the panic, every site's going frantic, keep it pinned at the top, and that fright will never stop. Some people have good advice, but they're stuck under the ice that is media like Vice, NBC, Buzzfeed Live.
We're supposed to be adults, but the world's at a hault, and it isn't our fault, despite what some may say. So, as the class of 2020, our broken souls are many. Forgive us if we're angry, we're just kids caught in the fray.
An almost directed study on the history of the Dark Academy and how it came about:
The dark academy began when society's understanding of the role of the academy began to be digested by society at large. If academia has historically been understood to illuminate the dark areas of our understanding of the world and our beliefs, then academia has always been viewed as the light against the darkness of superstition, against animal impulses. But also to reflect on the reaction of society to the revolutionary ideas that push against tradition.
We have two diametrically opposite habits that the dark academy can be said to embody. The first is to seek knowledge while breaking universal taboos. The second is the search for knowledge while breaking the specific taboos of society. The reason why I position these as diametrically opposed is because the first set tends to be taboos recognized by almost all human societies, for example, cannibalism, torture, rape, incest, desecrating the dead. For example, Milgram's experiments simulated (but did not carry out) actual torture, in order to measure people's willingness to commit torture. The latter are society-specific taboos; for example, belief in evolution (i.e. Darwinism) would have positioned certain biologists as rejected by a broader society, but they are now hailed as heroes. So in many ways.
So when has it been socially understood that academia engages in the darkest areas? Basically, when the academy gets involved with issues that society in general is not sure or condemns. We have resurrectionists, we have Egyptologists entering tombs, both topics try to contaminate the dead.
Actually, the dark academy started in the mid 1800s and lasted until probably the 1930s, the age of the Enlightenment. This was the heyday of the age of empires, and several hundred years of a boom in world trade. Mass shipping conglomerates shared materials and goods from the Old World to the New, allowing the free exchange of ideas (it was common for professors and researchers to go to other countries in a safe circuit) and goods. This brings us back to the "uniform" of the academy, both in clothing and in consumption.
the role of the academic before industrialization tended to be much more restricted; only certain classes of people were able to attend universities, and therefore the study of "the masters of knowledge" (usually philosophy and literature) were independently funded by great fortune or continued participation in the institute or academy.
