The first of 6 characters I'm making for a character design portfolio project! This is Nova (they/she/he) and they're the lead singer and bass guitarist in a multigenre music act named Call The Celestial Wind. The whole group is intended to be a versatile ensemble that can be used in a variety of projects, both original and fanon. But for this specific deck I'm finalizing their "base designs" and establishing their primary role, core personhood, and what cultures they hail from, which can all be easily added onto for future use.

The rest of the crew will be rolling out slower, since ideally they'd all be progressing at the same pace. But I decided to finish Nova first so I can gauge how much work will go into each character.

Some info on Nova themself (which may or may not be a repeat of what I've written previously):

After becoming orphaned as a teen, Nova met the two founders of the legendary jazz troupe Spiral Boughs, who were passing through his hometown on tour. The two founders are a couple, and they took a liking to Nova and gave him shelter in exchange for helping out backstage. This eventually led to an official adoption and providing for him alongside their daughter.

Nova later began to express an interest in performing, and at age 17 brought their stylistic sensibilities to the act, including their powerhouse vocals, Ryukuan dances they learned in their upbringing, and newly-acquired guitar skills. Thus began a new wave of success for Spiral Boughs, and a shift that allowed other members to suggest new acts and “yes, and” each other. Seeing the younger band members’ potential, their parents encouraged Nova to start a new act with their sister, to explore all the things they wanted to without stylistic constraints.

Not long before debuting, Nova opened up to their parents about their gender questioning, and it remained an in-group “secret” until they became comfortable enough to publicly present more androgynous and change their name on the program. I describe her as transfem even if she doesn't dress super feminine very often; her identity is more of an amorphous one that teeters a faint line between tomboy and femboy. She's also aroace, for what it's worth.

Here are some pose sheets for my Cranium Command headcanon. I wanted to practice drawing different poses for once, so because I'm taking my character design stuff far more seriously, I went ahead and made these. Buzzy and Captain Cortex are relatively easy to draw, so they were the perfect characters to start with.
