A thing I think college students should learn before finals is whether their dorm floor has an unsecured breaker box.
You too can become the blessed post-midnight quiet you want to see in the world if that little grey rectangle can be opened by any passerby and you can figure out which fuse goes to which rooms.
I typically see people portraying Mr Plant as a touch adverse guy, and i can see that! But personally i like to imagine him acting almost like a cat in regards of physical contact
Is he not comfortable with you/does he not know you? Fuck you then. Touch his hand, die by his hand
Is he comfortable with the person (cough is the person Argos cough)? He's ok with being touched and may even be the one to initiate the contact
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
I think both my OCs developed their own distinct personalities over time, but they do also both reflect various aspects of my personality and appearance - for better or for worse. Hopefully not too much, as they are supposed to be very much their own characters, but if I had to examine them more closely...
Mimble probably reflects my silliness, my whimsicality and my love of words and badinage - but also my occasional(?) tendency towards being arch, facetious and something of a smartarse.
He definitely gets my more chaotic and irresponsible traits, but also my areas of strength, like my confidence in performing and speaking in public and my quick thinking in a crisis.
He is also imbued with a lot of my more easygoing personality traits and my ability to get along with most people - but he also has my tendency towards self-indulgence and my habitual idleness and disinclination towards exertion and labour.
He is much more of a gentleman than I am - and infinitely better dressed. Plus I am considerably larger than Mimble (who is just under 3 feet tall) and not nearly as cute. But I do know what it is to feel very small and to have others frequently underestimate me, so maybe he functions as something of a reaction against that.
He's also definitely a power fantasy as far as bringing people together, breaking down barriers and spreading joy is concerned. I do my best, but sadly real life offers far fewer victories in that regard.
Humble certainly looks a bit like me - although I don't have a black stripe on my nose and I'm not quite as large - which wasn't a conscious intention when creating him, but has been pointed out since.
He probably represents some of my struggles with understanding things and feeling less smart than other people - although my challenges tend to be more around processes and practical issues, rather than general knowledge or reading. We are both viewed as being a bit slow on the uptake by a lot of people I think.
He also has the westcountry accent that I would have had, if I hadn't had received pronounciation knocked into me from an early age (Mimble very much gets the RP version of my voice).
His shyness and lack of self-confidence is very me - Mimble gets my exhibitionist love of peforming for an audience, Humble gets my anxiety and struggles over things that other people find easy, and my sensitivity to rejection and crippling fear of letting others down.
Whilst I am a bit more experienced than Humble, I suspect his virginity and anxiety around sex and relationships is a pretty clear projection of my own issues in that area (and over which we shall draw a modest veil). Plus feeling like you look very different to the accepted beauty standard is something to which we can both relate.
I have been described as a gentle sort of person, although it hasn't always been meant as a compliment, so perhaps there's something of that in Humble. Conversely, I don't have an Inner Beast to unleash, but on the rare occasions I get angry, I do get very very angry and I have certainly had a few fights in my time (although sadly I do not have a giant axe).
So perhaps Humble is my power fantasy of being confused, shy and uncertain a lot of the time, but still being respected and changing the world anyway (this is, again, trickier to achieve in real life...)
Reading holy terrors and I am SO SURE. THAT LILJE IS A LESBIAN. adn also that she and emerics betrothal is a sham to appease someone, although I’m not sure who. Also I think that she knows that he’s not over vanja (based off of the whole him interrogating her on benno bc WHAT was he doing. like brother you need to be directly adjacent to a very specific ginger or you might combust, doctors orders)because who could get over vanja?? Not kaka or whatever his name was. Kaspas? I feel like it was close to kaspas. Whatever. I AM SO CERTAIN THAT SHE IS A FLAMING HOMOSEXUAL. if she’s not in going to be very concerned about how schmidtcon is going to ethically reemerge from the ashes but I still need to finish the book don’t spoil it for me please
and when I say ethically I mean I am trusting Margaret Owen and her ability to write well-written queer characters to not make emeric cheat on anyone. I’m assuming she hasn’t written such treachery, consider kakaface from the beginning. Also I’m so serious PLEASE don’t spoil it I will crash tf OUTTTT. I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS SINCE GRADE 7 FIR TGIS BOOK AND IT CAME IN TODAY AND I REFUSE TO BE SPOILED. anyway. Lilje seems like a nice l(esbian)ady. I like her. I hope she isn’t a plot twist villain she’s pretty cool but it’s probably *rmgard considering the ending of painted devils
