For this I play through all arpeggios in all keys. Each arpeggio is only performed in one direction so the next day I begin in the opposite direction Two videos: 1) Day one - arpeggio series starting at the bottom with C minor. Each arpeggio alternates. “Quilting” or “stitching” is a powerful #violinpractice🎻 #practiceroom #practiceroutine I use when passages seem intimidating at first glance. The concept is simple…start with small groups and stitch them together into larger and larger groups until the entire passage is easy. Here’s an example of this #violinpractice in #spanishdance by #ukrainiancomposer #myroslavskoryk (mm 44-50) 5 videos: 1) One measure at a time - repeat each measure several times (I repeat 3 times in this video for brevity; however in a real #violinpractise session it will likely be a lot more) ~swipe left~ 2) Two measure groups overlapping (1+2, 2+3, 3+4, etc.) ~swipe left~ 3) Three measure groups overlapping (1+2+3, 3+4+5, 5+6+7, etc) ~swipe left~ 4) performance version - the practice process can be extended to create larger groups by I find if three measure at a time becomes easy I can usually play the entire passage easily. ~swipe left~ 5) Photo of mm 44-50. Things have been busy as I’m designing more promotional posters using Photoshop but I still get stuck into the #lifetimewarmup once a day. 170bpm is now my new “normal” and I am trying to consolidate this tempo. Each day I play through each section of the routine using a timer, for thirty seconds. This is inspired by the Endurance Challenge when Tommy would play each element for a minute. This has had the main benefit of strengthening my Paradiddles and Flam Paradiddles, but the whole routine benefits.
