"Megalodon"
the maharishi was a wannabe cult leader who profited off of a cultural movement and used it to take advantage of vulnerable artists.
"I need her this instant"
Barnett Newman, Uriel, 1955, acquired by Ken Griffin in 2021 for an undisclosed nine-figure price, photographed on view at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2021 by Tocho T8.
"Only those people practice destruction and betrayal who hunger to accept completely the values of the establishment in which they seek a place. It’s the establishment that makes people predatory."
“Chicken leg” took me out but I completely agree
Nest Raider
A scurry under the leaf litter... The young are confused, Yanna among them. This is no leaf crunching gently step of their parent, this is the hurried movements... Of a predator. From the nearest shrub, a large shadow appears, quickly snatching up one of the Yutyrannus chicks, crunching it's neck under its jaws before scurrying off as their father runs in to ward off the hairy beast...
Yanna will survive to see another day, however, one of her brothers will not.
Jinzhou, China, 125 MYA. Featured species: Yutyrannus huali, Repenomamus giganticus
Notes about the above image showing a more naturalistic portrayal of events: Repenomamus should not be this large. This is like 100% 'artistic licence' (me free handing this). If you want to make a naturalistic explanation, this could be an exceptionally large individual of several years in age that is highly skilled at nest raiding. I guess?
Yesterday afternoon I dragged my friend to Denge Wood forest. While there, I spotted one of my top five favorite beetles. These lustrous and magnificent little guys are green tiger beetles (Cicindela campestris).
They are incredibly fast predatory beatles that hunt down and eat other insects. The larvae of this beetle live in individual burrows in sandy soil. They flick out the sand around them creating a pitfall that other insects fall into.
So beautiful but deadly.
