I wish people knew how uncomfortable Tourette’s is for so many of us.
Most people with Tourette syndrome have something called a premonitory urge. This is essentially a feeling you get before you tic. For me it’s like there’s a ball of pure energy trapped in my chest and it’s trying to claw its way out. It’s like electricity running through my bones, conducting the power of a lighting strike. Like sandpaper underneath my skin, like my veins are filling with lead. Like my blood is bubbling, every cell in my body screaming for me to do the tic. It’s horrible. The longer I try to hold the tic in, the worse the feeling gets. And no matter how hard I try to hold it in, it always comes out in the end.
