This is a vent about my dyspraxia that I don’t really expect people to read or care about idk. I just thought it was something I should post.
I hate having a physical/learning and neurological disability that everyone just thinks is an excuse for not doing shit.
I get accomodations, but everyone just thinks I’m fucking over exaggerating
I actually have trouble with nerves connecting in my brain.
Mines mainly fine moter coordination, but-
This thing causes me to struggle with walking, jumping, talking, dressing/changing clothes, lisping, writing, drawing, balancing, dancing, planning, time management, organising, sequencing problems, math, restlessness, fatigue, low self esteem, thinking, learning, cooking, typing, grabbing things, regulating emotions, social skills, stairs, sleeping difficulty, using cutlery, awkward movements, attention span, visual-spatial awareness, reading maps, and like a thousand more things. That are embarrassing to admit.
Ive been so high masking all my life with this, that people don’t see how much it affects me day-to-day.
What do you mean I’m more prone to addiction, depression, anxiety, low self esteem and weight issues?
What do you mean I’ll probably Never be in any STEAM job ive dreamed of my whole life because of my struggles with math and movement? What do you mean I’ll probably never be an artist because of my lack of ability to hold a brush? What do you mean I can’t probably Never fly a plane because of my lack of hand eye coordination?
What do you mean I can’t even stand on a fucking bus!?!?
Yes I have accomodations, but it’s not just an excuse.
It’s not quirky, it’s not cute, it’s not talked about EVER.
I mention it, and people are like, ‘it cant be that bad!’,
‘yeah, but you are lucky, you get headphones!’,
‘At least it’s not (insert another neurological condition).’
I can’t participate in a lot of PE, I wish I could, Hiphop sounds cool. But I’d make a fool of myself. I can’t physically make those movements with my body. I hate dancing and gymnastics for a reason. And yet people get jealous, and dismissive? It makes me so upset. During gymnastics I cried because I felt so shit even stepping onto that mat aware of my disability.
Walking for over 20 minutes HURTS. My ankles click when I walk upstairs.
Don’t envy me for something I’d kill not to have.
