Today's the last day of school for our 7th Grader and after two quarters of hard work on his Mathematics subject, he finally passed and is now eligible for enrollment in Grade 8 this August. This means so much for all of us since he doesn't want to go to any other school besides CMU Lab. But if he failed in even just one subject, he would have been advised to enroll in other schools. His Maths tutor said he's not weak in the subject; he just needed to believe in himself more. This served as a wake up call for me and my husband. For 9 years I worked as a high school career coach and I never got to help more than a handful of those kids at risk of dropping out stay in school, and I think I now know why -- the school can only do so much. It's the parents' primary responsibility to look after their children, encourage them to pursue their studies and, most importantly, help them build self-confidence. After seeing his report card last Wednesday, I realized I made the right decision on working from home to spend more time with the kids. My husband and I were able to help him develop his study habits and adopt an active lifestyle to keep him physically and mentally fit. I would say #mountainbiking really helped a lot in shaping his confidence and strengthening his cognition. As parents, we're nowhere near perfect, but we try our very best to heed our highest calling and be there for the kids. It's so easy to get preoccupied with so many things thinking we're doing them for the good of the children, so we can provide for their needs; we sometimes forget that more than anything, they need parents they can connect with and count on in helping them trust themselves better. #Parenting #parentingadolescents #presentparent #parentinggoals #WAHM #wahmlife #sobermom #recoverywarrior #wahmlifestyle #filipinomom #homemaking #countryliving #mtblife #mtb #mountainbike #biking #bukidnonmyhome #Philippines https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx14wISFsGz/?igshid=1u9fk9ngjsu0j
