Uncle had a brain fart. 2 hours running around the tennis court with Dad’s Army boosted his appetite so a quick trip to Master Chinese Restaurant was warranted. Aunties always order the Stewed Pork in Preserved Vegetable. So Uncle succumbed. The pork belly was stewed to melt in mouth and the preserved vegetable (mui choy) cut through the sweetish pork. Of course there’s a bit of layered fat - otherwise the pork will be dry and stringy. Here’s the catch, Uncle’s eyes were bigger than his stomach. Had to tapau what was not eaten (two thirds). Luckily for Uncle, he was given freshly made chive and egg dumplings from the family meal. Delicious. Aunties do Taste In Memory, Mt Albert. And after ordering and devouring 11 dishes from the menu, they all gave Taste In Memory the thumbs up. Just when you thought they were all satiated, they order 3 dessert dishes. Together with the Xiao Long Bao, the 3 desserts were the greatest hits. Aunties had: • xiao long bao • millet cakes • meat wrapped with pressed tofu in chicken juice # fried tofu in vermicelli )gluten-free) • quick fried flour coated spare ribs • green vegetable in chicken consomme • ji tsai pork wonton • shie tsai rou si imam ( noodles with shredded pork & preserved vegetable. The trio of satisfying desserts, all served warm: • lily and mungbean congee • sweet osmanthus congee with brown sugar • red dates, lotus seed and white fungus congee.
