Child abuse and animal sexualization are not normal. We wish to see rape representation without feti-
"YOU'RE A PURITAN! YOU'RE A NAZI AND YOU'RE CENSORING US!"
Proshippers who say “fiction doesn’t affect reality” genuinely confuse me.
Media portraying black women back when films were invented showed them as happy to serve their employers, perpetuating the Mammy stereotype that black women and people in general enjoyed being treated as subhuman servants. That fiction affecting reality. Same for the jezebel stereotype, although it came a bit later in the media the idea was around for a long time as justification for white men sexually abusing black women by showing them as hypersexuals that would happily get down for a man, which really damaged the perception of black women as a whole. Again, fiction affecting reality.
The feminist trope that showed an angry man hating woman who always goes around the streets carrying a sign about equal rights and talking nothing but equal rights to her friends, and showing her as kind of annoying contributed to the rampant misogyny of the 00s by showing all feminists like that. These are fictional characters, but they are (say it with me!) affecting reality.
You wanna know why when you when you were younger acted all “girly girl” playing with dolls and dress up or if you were a boy you played with trucks, building blocks and excluded girls (assuming you did) Because you watched shows of fictional characters doing the same thing. You wanna know why your parents told you scary stories of children going into the woods at night or disobeying their parents and then something terrible happens to them? Because they knew that these fictional characters would scare children into not going into the woods or not disobeying their parents, thus, affecting reality.
And I don’t see proshippers defending these fictional people, saying that “oh they’re fictional characters they’re allowed to be like that”
There’s many more examples of fiction affecting reality that people can list in the tags or comments, but that’s all I have to say for now.
Proshippers claim to be these super woke “anti-censorship” advocates but then turn around and worship their precious Ao3 as if the site isn’t actively censoring/silencing any mentions of Palestine…
None of them actually give a flying fuck about any of the very real censorship going on right now, so it’s always incredibly painful having to witness these idiots go “uhm—actually the true original meaning of proship is just being against censorship!☝️🤓”
Okay??? Then act like it.
Because no, censorship isn’t a handful of people online reacting negatively towards your toxic yaoi non-con incest and whatever the fuck else fanfic. You are not and never will be oppressed for what you actively chose to indulge in.
You can absolutely be anti-censorship and not be proship/fic or the other silly pointless labels that have been conjured up over the years. Why lie and say these terms mean something they’re not, when anti-censorship is a perfectly fine and clear label to begin with?
I myself will always believe in being anti-censorship but pro-consequences. I don’t condone or partake in harassment or bullying, but I do believe in the consequences of publishing such things. If you make content that doesn’t handle these serious/dark topics with the care and respect needed to tastefully depict them, then I’m sorry, but don’t be surprised when people do eventually come for you, that is incredibly naive. Receiving criticism and backlash is not censorship, and some people really need to learn that fact. Once your work is publicly up online, a few dead dove and don’t like don’t read tags plastered on it aren’t going to automatically make you exempt from judgement.
I’m so sick and tired of seeing all these serious terms like “fascist”, “puritan”, “censorship”, “purity culture”, etc… being watered down and thrown around with zero thought or respect for what they actually mean, all just because someone hurt your feelings online by not aligning with your beliefs. It's not the big-brained gotcha moment you think it is; it's just straight up insensitive to the actual victims of these things, and you sound stupid.
I can’t, and never will be able to, take someone seriously the moment they put the hate for their distasteful fetish content on the same level as the terms I mentioned above. People have died in genocides and are still being killed; women in some places are still being shamed and harmed for showing an ounce of sexuality or for simply bleeding once a month (something which to some is still seen an “impure”); minorities and queer voices are being silenced, and history is being erased. But no, none of that matters, does it? You only care about supposed “censorship” when it suits you as a fun little buzzword to use incorrectly.
Anyways, censorship fucking sucks! Dark themes are important and should obviously still be explored in works of fiction. But I have every right to judge losers for jerking it to fictional children and other whack shit like that. ✌️
proshitters are genuinely so fucking disgusting
im not even gonna be the bigger person i hope people like this have the worst possible lives
am i good at this fanfiction thing
”Why are there so many radqueers in the proship community?”
Maybe when you make a community that normalizes the romanization of abuse, you attract a lot of weirdos who normalize and romanticize abuse.
Proshippers always wanna say "Respect boundaries!" until someone's boundary is not wanting proshippers to interact. Then they gotta take it all personal and actively violate your boundary to try and convince you its actually puritan of you to have said boundary.
