Cooperative Commissions: a platform idea
alright, was chilling out on the hijack discord and had a brainwave. here goes:
What do you do if you'd like to commission something from an artist, but you don't have the money? Well, you either suffer, or you save up for a long time, or you get a bunch of friends to pitch in together.
That last one is the thing I want to address here.
I envision a platform where:
Users pitch commission ideas to artists.
The artist decides that either they won't do the thing at all and the idea gets discarded, or they will do the thing. They set a price and make the idea public.
Public ideas can get voted on similar to Kickstarter projects. You don't get charged until the whole thing has been committed to.
Once an idea is funded, it goes into the artist's queue to be worked on in roughly the order they were funded.
Once it's fulfilled, everyone who backed the idea gets the art, and then the artist can set a price for latecomers to buy it too.
I really like this idea. I would absolutely use this if it was a thing and my favorite artists were on it. If someone builds this, or already has, please let me know.
As for building it myself? No. "Anything handling Real Money" is on my list of things to never program for. I refuse to work on things that, when they get hacked (and assholes will try, because money), will cause real problems for people.
