The death of the general cultural boldness
There is a very real weight that comes with this loss of authenticity we see nowadays in the music industry, amongst other culturally significant scenes.
So many modern artists and bands are brands first. Their every move, their every word are calculated, rehearsed. Social medias are tracking them 24/7. They need to be accepted by the mass.
Neutrality is the survival strategy. They slowly turn into influencers, keeping a safe distance with the real world and its issues. Staying away from any potentially dividing subjects.
Understandable in this highly technological, performative and sanitized society, but very unfortunate nonetheless. Imagine how alienating and isolating this must be.
Hole performing live.
I grieve the messy, loud, political, chaotic and deeply human bands of the 90’s.
A crazy time we live in.
