Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6
To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! Proverbs 15:23
There is incredible power in speech. You and I are called to encourage one another! Words have power, that is why we preach the word of God. It gives hope to a hopeless world, bringing salvation to everyone who believes. It is the voice that says to the downcast, “All is well. God is in control of your situation, my dear one. God is still on the throne. Jesus is still the victor, and we are still more than conquerors.”
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)
“Worry is a heavy burden, but a kind word always brings cheer.” Proverbs 12:25 (CEV)
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” —Mother Teresa
“One kind word can change someone's entire day.” —Unknown
As well as the many Bible verses, hundreds of books have been written about the power of the tongue! Harsh words cause great emotional pain, but kind words do the opposite - they ease pain. Words have enormous power to heal. Anxiety, stress, worry, fear and dread are like heavy millstones around the heart, but a kind word can make your heart (and mood) feel so much lighter. Kind words cost nothing, take only moments to say and can support and lift someone's heart, like a balloon lifting it high into the cool, lovely breeze (as on the picture). One smile, one kind word or action can literally turn someone's day around for the better. As Christians, God has given us a superpower for great good - our words - used in speech and in prayer. It is for us to use our words wisely. Friend, never underestimate your power to change someone's day with your words. PRAYER: Lord, help us to use our words for kindness, support, encouragement, friendship, prayers for others. Help us to always use words like Jesus did - to heal and not to harm. In Jesus' name, Amen. 🙏
