What is ENNUI, one of the new 4 emotions from Inside Out 2
The true emotion that hides behind Ennui
I decided to post this since I've seen many people, inclusing some of my friends, say that Ennui is a very irrelevant character, that she is just there to make jokes and nothing serious, some even say that the boredom is not a true emotion... Well, they're kind of right, but only because they don't understand what ennui is or what she represents. She's actually a bigger deal than a lot of people think, and it's a shame not many see it because I believe she's the best and most interesting and different of the new emotions.
In philosophy and psychology, Ennui describes a constant emotional state where a person always feels bored and apathetic, which may be related to depression.
It is not just feeling bored at a specific moment, but a continuous feeling of lack of interest and motivation in life.
It's an emotion that Riley uses as a "protection mechanism" that allows her to go from a high-drama situation to total indifference.

I was supposed to work but I got severely distracted—
I need someone with an education in psychology to do an in-depth psychoanalysis of Kaigaku. Despite my efforts to stay impartial, I don't know if my amateur one is tinged with favoritism because I adore him or not. Also, I am always curious about how real-world diagnosis can be applied to fictional characters.
Not even the usual halfhearted “thoughts and prayers” from Republicans for Tyre Nichols.
The Nichols family has invited Vice President Harris to attend the funeral.
Kamala Harris to attend Tyre Nichols’ funeral in Memphis
Whenever there’s a mass shooting lately the GOP apologists for the NRA blame the incidents on mental health. Yes, this is the same party which welcomes the bizarrely disconnected from reality George Santos as part of its House caucus.
If Republicans were genuinely interested in the relationship between mental health and violence they would be calling for strict psychological screening of police on a regular basis. They would also be proposing national standards for police.
Police forces in the US should be run more professionally like the FBI and less like Putin’s mercenary war criminals the Wagner Group.
if one of my family members said to me "i appreciate what you do", i'd probably be offended. like, my worth to them is solely what functions i perform to assist them? when my family say "i love you", it is not in thanks or recognition of one thing, it is an acceptance and fondness of my whole being. that's why i find it important. they can express gratitude for favours in other ways, with other words, but when they mean "i love you", they say it. life is too short for anything else.
I understand your point. It has been proven that, as human beings, we need both the conditional and the unconditional love to develop properly.
I know my family will support me even if I don’t do anything productive. This is reassuring. However, I am also aware that they have certain expectations. I had to go to university, get a degree, and then get a job. Those are reasonable expectations to have of your child, and they are also an expression of love. There were times I hated my parents, but I understood they want me to be able to support myself and be a well-functioning adult. I currently have a part-time job and money of my own, but I probably couldn’t sustain myself in the long run. This is fine, because I know my parents will support me, as long as I give and not just take.
A little on the sad note: I can’t, in all honesty, label the feelings I have towards my parents as ‘love’. The way I see it, love can only exist between equals. My parents are not my equals – they are my superiors. Deep in my heart, I fear them. They didn’t abuse me or anything, but when I’m around them, I enter the role of a child. This program in my brain won’t allow me to be just me – it restrains me. I don’t like this feeling.
By contrast: my brother is my equal and him I do love. Still, neither him not I feel the need to underline this. We do stuff together. We do stuff for each other. I see his love for me in him carrying my groceries or driving me places. I express mine to him by negotiating between him and our mom, translating the English he doesn’t understand, or assisting him in filming his movies. The two of us are a team. We are equals, so I don’t have to be afraid of what he thinks of me. I will never have this carefreeness with our parents.
Once again, this is my personal view, and my thinking is heavily influenced by my Asperger’s Syndrome. People differ in the way they perceive and express love, and I respect that.
