Josie points at the biggest letters. “What’s it say?” Mom kneels in front of the stone, pulling her lightly into her lap. “Want to try sounding it out?” Josie nods, and Mom gently steers her finger to trace the first letter, a large S. “Sss,” Josie tries, and Mom nods, so she keeps going. “Tuh. Ee. Vee. Ee.” She furrows her brow, concentrating, and then declares, “Stevie-E.” “Close.” Mom leans back again, gently placing a bouquet of pink flowers down. “Steve.” “Steve,” she echoes. “Steve.” Mom’s voice softens. “His name was Steve.”

Steve Harrington dies. Decades later, Dustin Henderson resurrects him.

This is not that story. That story’s already been told. No, this is about what comes after.

Eddie comes out to Steve, and Steve's heartbroken about it for some reason. Eddie thinks Steve's dating Robin. Everyone else thinks Steve and Eddie have been dating this whole time. Robin doesn't get paid enough for this shit.

Also, Hawkins has been cracked open like a badly-baked cake, and everyone's settled into the most mundane apocalypse possible. Eddie Munson starts a radio programme about it.

Meanwhile, Steve gets his nails painted, and outsources a crisis he isn't having.

Oh my gods do I love this fic. Pining? Check. Gender being messy and complicated? Check. Queerness being messy and transgressive and fluid? Check. Worldbuilding that makes me want to chew through drywall? Double check.

The fandom has nothing else like this fic, and if you're a Steddie enjoyer you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try.

Comments: There’s just...so much about this that I love. Aziraphale and Crowley being SoHo crypids. Warlock yelling at his plants, but still sometimes calling them sister or brother. Anathema’s extended familiy. Aziraphale being like, “oh no you don’t summon my demon love.” Aziraphale and Crowley being amazing godpartns. And man, the chat messages between Warlock’s friends. Priceless.
