2026 feels like Sam fully inhabiting his work —
the craft lived through the body,
the quiet control, the patience to let each moment breathe.
That same intention flows through everything he creates —
on screen, behind the scenes, and through the Sassenach world he’s built with care and purpose.
Nothing rushed. Nothing forced.
Just devotion to quality, discipline, and respect for the process.
His work doesn’t chase attention —
it’s rooted in depth, restraint, and longevity.
That kind of artistry is intimate.
And when it’s done with honesty like this…
it doesn’t just make an impression —
it lingers. 🎭🥃✨

The Philosophy of Eudaimonia
Eudaimonia (Greek: εὐδαιμονία) is a central concept in ancient Greek philosophy—particularly in the ethical systems of Aristotle, Plato, and the Stoics. Often translated as “happiness,” “well-being,” or more accurately, “human flourishing,” eudaimonia refers to the highest aim of human life: to live in a way that fulfills one’s nature and potential.
Origins and Core Meaning
The word eudaimonia is derived from:
"eu" – meaning "good" or "well"
"daimon" – meaning "spirit" or "divine power"
So, originally, to be eudaimon meant to be blessed by a good spirit, but in philosophical usage, it evolved into the state of living well in accordance with virtue and reason.
Aristotle’s View
In Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, eudaimonia is not a fleeting emotion, but a lifelong activity aligned with virtue (arete) and rationality. For Aristotle:
“Eudaimonia is the activity of the soul in accordance with virtue in a complete life.”
This means:
It is not the same as pleasure or wealth.
It is achieved through excellence in character, reason, and ethical behavior.
It requires external goods (like health, friendships, and stability), but is mainly determined by inner virtue.
Stoic and Socratic Interpretations
Socrates believed eudaimonia is achieved by living a life of inquiry and moral integrity, guided by the care of the soul.
The Stoics (like Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius) held that eudaimonia consists in living according to nature and reason, and that virtue alone is sufficient for flourishing—regardless of one’s external conditions.
Eudaimonia vs. Hedonism
Unlike hedonism, which identifies happiness with pleasure and the absence of pain, eudaimonia emphasizes:
Moral responsibility
Purposeful action
Self-development
Contribution to the common good
It is not about momentary joy, but about living well as a whole.
Contemporary Relevance
Modern psychology (especially positive psychology) has rediscovered eudaimonia, contrasting it with hedonic well-being. Eudaimonic well-being focuses on:
Meaning
Personal growth
Authenticity
Purpose
Autonomy
In Summary
Eudaimonia is not about feeling good, but about being good. It is the culmination of a life lived intentionally, ethically, and in harmony with one’s deeper nature. The philosophy of eudaimonia challenges us to pursue more than success or comfort—to seek a meaningful life of virtue, reason, and self-realization.

Mother Vengeance

I am the seventh daughter, like my mother. We are a minor branch of The Family, an extended family descended from the first seven sisters.
Indoctrination begins at birth; we’re taught the Family’s motto of ‘Family First’ and the good fortune attached to The Lore of Seven.
The Lore maintains the good fortune of The Family when they respect the number seven.
The good fortune eluded my mother when she married without The Family’s approval. Denied a seat on the executive committee, running The Family business. The ban held even after my father’s death.
I was seven when my mother warned me that being born seventh was no guarantee of a seat on the committee. Those days were gone. The warning meant little to me until seven years later.
Over a seven-month period, four of my siblings died. Alise died when an industrial ladder fell on her in a freak accident. Then, three of my older siblings were in a car accident. Cera and Darta died at the scene. Elza is brain damaged and lives at home, staring into space. Francesca, closest to me in age, died from anaphylactic shock when she ate food with groundnuts at a family teenage party. She didn’t have her epi-pen with her. Everyone knew she was allergic.
My elegant mother claims the branches jockeying for power within The Family are to blame. She has become gaunt, wearing all black to mourn her daughters, saying to all that will listen; we are under attack even when other branches of The Family are suffering similar losses.
~ ~ ~
Mother organised a get-a-way to a country retreat that accommodated my disabled sister. She told us, her remaining daughters, that we were planning for the future.
The first evening after dinner, we sat outside around a firepit. There was no fire because it was a beautiful warm summer evening. Outside, there was less chance of being overheard or recorded.
She said, “No-one from the family has dared to walk away in recent history. My information source claims the target is you, Gita, as a seventh daughter. Alise pushed you out of the way and died instead. You were supposed to be in the car with your sisters, but you were ill and didn’t go. You are allergic to nuts, like Francesca.”
A chill ran down my spine, even though there was no breeze.
We watched mother open an old wooden-box and withdraw documents. “Your father left me these documents as a precaution. We discussed an escape plan before he died. Gita, we will fake your death and smuggle you overseas to your father’s family. Your task is to attain an education that will allow you to avenge the deaths of your sisters and ultimately, take over or destroy The Family business.”
She explained that she and Barbare would keep gathering information for me.
And so, I become my father’s daughter with his connections to help me enact my mother’s revenge.
Esther 4:14
For this very time,
me according to God's plan
present here and now,
all I'll say is holy cow,
see, life isn't mundane at all!
