Enchantment magick involves the binding of two or more energies in order to make the two influence the others own energy.
Example: talismans, potions, sigils, poppets
Illusion đ
Illusion magick works on mental and/or emotional plane(s) in order to give impressions and influence the five senses.
Example: glamour, âinvisibilityâ, calmness, paranoia, eye color
Restoration đż
Restoration magick heals, protects, or strengthens a target typically through a direct energetic link.
Example: warding, circle casting, healing, protection
These are the seven schools of magick that I personally use simply for organization purposes. They are organized in this manner instead of more traditional manners due to my own approach to magick. This is not a summary of the extent of magick nor the practices involved. These are broad categories.
Many witches become witches when they lack other areas of power and wish to make change in their life. This is a very practical approach. They will typically organize themselves by the purpose of a spell: wealth, career, health, love, luck, hexing, etc.
I understand this practical approach, and I definitely use witchcraft when I need it for such uses. But I did not become a witch because of the practicality so much as I did because of the love and passion for magick itself rather than simply what it can bring me.
This love and passion and fascination manifested through my craft by creating a focus on the development of magick. The development of supernatural/psychic powers is the goal of my craft, as well as learning various methods to use my magick best. This has influenced my choice to organize my craft, as well as (now) my tumblr, in this manner. These categories allow me to manipulate energy in various ways to better reinforce my practice. These categories are not based merely on the end goal of magick, but the methods used to get there.
While not every alteration spell will have the exact same method, there will be similarities so that they reinforce each other. Spells of the same school will typically use similar energy manipulation.
Chronokinesis is the practice and art of manipulating time. All entities mentioned in this post should not be contacted nor worked with without further research on your part, and the definitions of such entities are not necessarily the full story.
These definitions are not meant to fully explain any methods of chronokinesis, but serve to connect related ideas and define jargon that will be scattered throughout my posts. I recognize some terms listed are more complex than others and will require posts dedicated to them: feel free to leave a suggestion on what I should talk more about. The list is in alphabetical order.
Aion/Aeternitas: God of time (Aion) in its eternal form in Greek mythology. Aeternitas is the female counterpart. *Entity
Chronos: The Greek embodiment of time as linear and unchanging. Later portrayed as Aion. *Entity
Compression: When time compresses, much can happen while little time passes. Refer to: Fotamecus, Expansion
Crossing (Timelines): The action/verb form of timeline intersection. Refer to: Timeline Intersection
Elapsed Time: The period of time skipped during a time jump.
Expansion:Â When time expands, little can be done while a long period of time passes. Refer to: Fotamecus, Compression
Fixation: Refers to using a memory/event from another timeline in order to âlockâ it into the timeline youâre on. Used in some methods of casual loop paradoxes and timeline intersection. Events/memories that undergo fixation are âfixedâ events/memories. (In the normal past-to-future passage of time, the past is fixed, unchanging.) Refer to: Paradox (Causal Loop), Timeline Intersection
Fotamecus:Â An evolved servitor that works with time as fluid and malleable, contrary to Chronos. Uses compression and expansion when invoked (petitioner can choose one that is needed, but must experience the other in balance). Refer to: Compression, Expansion
Mandela Effect:Â Can refer to any number of side-effects put onto the past due to timeline intersection and/or common misconception. Refer to: Timeline Intersection
Memory Degradation/Decay:Â Loss of memory as a result of time loops or another form of time travel. Typically refers to a loss of memory of elapsed time in (long-distance) time loops. Refer to: Time Loops, Elapsed Time
Paradox (Causal Loop): Creates a timeline that relies on a fixed memory from the future to create a fixed memory in the past, going against the normal past-to-future gradient of time. Example: A psychic sees the future and does something in reaction that creates said future. Refer to: Fixation
Phoenix:Â A symbol for time in its eternal form. Refer to: Anion, Time Loop
Prehnite:Â A crystal used to aid in working with the essence of time.
Shadowing: The transfer of knowledge from future self to past self as a side-effect of time loops (comes into the practitioner as a memory). Reason why practitioners will have three memories of the elapsed time after a time loop instead of two. Refer to: Elapsed Time, Time Loop
Temporal Magick: Another word for chronokinesis and other, less direct ways of utilizing or manipulating time.Â
Time Jump: When a period of time is skipped to either arrive in the past or the future. Refer to: Elapsed Time, Time Loop
Time Loop: A time jump backwards in time, defined separately from time jumps in the future due to the elapsed time being remembered and experienced in a time loop. Refer to: Elapsed Time, Time Jump
Long-Distance: Long-distance time loops can be (a few?) days or longer (maximum unknown) into the past and most closely accompanied by memory degradation/decay. Most common type of time loop in my experience (in contrast to short-distance). Long-distance memories refer to memories formed by the combination of the elapsed time in a long-distance time loop, shadowing from a long-distance time loop, and any subsequent memory degradation/decay. Refer to: Memory Degradation/Decay, Shadowing, Elapsed Time
Short-Distance: Short-distance time loops rarely if ever result in memory degradation/decay. Like a song on repeat, an event repeats itself right after the event is experienced. Due to the âfreshnessâ of the memories, shadowing is less noticeable in short-distance time loops. Short-distance time loops are typically somewhere between a few hours to less than a second. Memories formed from the collective experience of short-distance time loops are referred to as short-distance memories. Very short-distance time loops (within seconds) may informally be referred to as âtime lag.â Refer to: Shadowing, Memory Degradation/Decay
Time Perception: The practice of slowing down or speeding up time, abiding by normal, linear rules of time. When perception of time slows down, so does the practitioner and the world around them. Motion/speed can visually be seen as slower or faster. This results from how fast or slow an individual processes their surroundings and is associated with mindfulness and concentration.
Timeline Intersection: When two timelines share the same exact memory/event. (Can be achieved by tuning-in to another timeline via precognition and using fixation) Refer to: Fixation
When researching magick online, there are a few keywords that are likely to get you what youâre searching for. Hereâs a list of words to help you navigate the web as a witch:
Correspondences: If you want to find out what something can be used for in a spell, like an apple, you can simply search for âapple correspondencesâ. âCorrespondencesâ is a high-frequency word within witchcraft jargon, so youâll mostly get results pretty easily by using it. Likewise, you can look for correspondences for what you need in a spell, such as âfire correspondencesâ, âlove correspondencesâ, or âluck correspondencesâ.
Magick: While some witches choose not to use this spelling of âmagicâ, it definitely makes searching the web easier in order to get what you want.
Meaning or Properties: This mostly works for crystals, so you can look up the magical characteristics of gems and stones.
Besides research key words, hereâs a little jargon you may find in the witchcraft community:
Deosil: This means clockwise, or the direction the sun moves.
Widdershins: This means counter-clockwise, or the opposite direction the sun moves.
Invoke/Invocation: To invoke something is to channel an entity or property through a vessel or practitioner. This is typically bringing the entity/property into the practitioner.
Evoke/Evocation: To evoke something is to conjure an entity or energy outside of the practitioner: so a summoning that doesnât channel the being inside of you, but outside.
Sympathetic Magic(k): This form of magick uses symbolism and imagery to represent a target or end goal. And example would be using a red candle carved as a woman or man (depending on your own gender/sex) to represent yourself during a spell to invoke passion, sexuality, and drive.
Law of Contagion: This goes alongside sympathetic magick. The law of contagion states that anything that has been in contact with each other remain that connection even when the physical connection is no longer present. Think about using a lock of hair from your target: thatâs because of the law of contagion.
Low Magic(k): This practice involves the use of nature such as gems, herbs, bones, etc. in order to meet practical needs. These practices tend to be less elaborate as high magick and focuses less on spiritual needs and deity bonding. (But do not feel the need to label your craft as low or high)
High Magic(k): This practice involves elaborate rituals, robes, tools, consecrations, and in-depth systems such as the Golden Dawn and Hermeticism. Often times, it may refer to ceremonial magic which works closely with deities and other spirits in order to achieve a better spiritual state. Unlike low magick, it tends to focus on spiritual needs over practical needs. High magick is associated with the upper class and formed from the more fortunate, explaining the less emphasis on practical needs. (But do not feel the need to label your craft as low or high.)
Athame: This is a ritual knife, which typically represents the element air or fire depending on the witch. Some high magicians claim your athame is best separate from cutting knives and should only be used in rituals, however, this is not true for many witches and low magicians. Athames, like wands, can be used to direct energy. They are useful for circle casting, as well as making âtearsâ in circles in order to leave temporarily, while sealing the tears back up afterwards. In tarot, knives represent air while wands represent fire, so I associate athames with air.
Grounding: Grounding is the act of stabilizing the witch into reality in order to be balanced in both the physical and metaphysical realms. It is a form of energy manipulation used to keep a witch healthy and to not lose touch with reality, prevent burnout, among fixing a variety of other issues.
Psionics: This practice has a focus on energy manipulation and psychic abilities and tends to require less faith and more evidence within communities. Not everyone who practices psionics identifies as a witch, and not every witch practices psionics.
Hoodoo/Voodoo: Hoodoo and Voodoo are religions, not practices such as âdark artsâ or even making poppets. Unless youâre trained in hoodoo and voodoo, itâs not hoodoo or voodoo just because it seems witchy or evil. Hoodoo and voodoo are not inherently evil, just like witchcraft is not inherently evil. I donât know much about voodoo, but modern hoodoo has evolved from African Americans and protection magick during slavery. Besides the specifics, just know that hoodoo and voodoo are not synonymous with witchcraft, curses, or evil.
Poppets: Unlike the term âvoodoo dollâ, a poppet is a secular and open-practice doll or figure made to represent a target person. It is typically sewn, and I would argue best hand-sewn (though feel free to experiment).
you might have already covered it, but do you have any recommendations for starting witchcraft? I've been wanting to but I have no idea where to start
Because I ramble, words are bolded that are research topics, while surrounding text is explanations and commentary. Besides just giving you topics to research (found in the first list), Iâve also given some guidelines after the list regarding spells.Â
Witchcraft is incredibly diverse: Iâd say as diverse as our everyday lives. Many areas of witchcraft can be a starting point without requiring knowledge on another area. Everything I list to you does NOT need to be learned in one day. These are topics that you can bit-by-bit go over. Below are areas most all witches are familiar with to some extent and start with, despite diverse paths:
Manifestation (spells of various sorts)
Tarot (can be used in spells, but usually divination)
Elder Futhark Runes (can be used in spells, but often divination)
Divination and Psychic Abilities
â Energy Manipulation (primarily grounding, centering, taking in energy, and releasing energy. Some basics can be found here http://snwitch.tumblr.com/post/120066238166/energy-work-masterpost)
Candle/Color Meanings
Sensing Energy (clairsentience: can be developed better with energy manipulation and meditation)
Meditation
â Correspondences and Tools (herbs, crystals, cauldrons, wands, athames, astrology/timing - all optional correspondences at your disposal for spellcraft and divination)
Enchanting (moon water, sun water, putting spells on items)
â Safety and Responsible Casting (understand dangers of magick and how to be safe when casting spells. Spells donât have a moral system, they do what they can to make what you project to happen. Sometimes it will end up how you want, sometimes it doesnât. This can range from harmless mistakes to mayhem to injury. If you curse someone to feel like theyâre on fire and use fire imagery, but donât make it clear that itâs a glamour or in their head, they could actually burn themselves or get in an accident. Or it could be subtle like a love spell gone wrong, forcing someone to be in a bad relationship, high on hormones)
â Spell Reversal (not all spells can easily be taken away without some damage leftover. If you summon a tornado, you can unsummon it, but the damage is done. In cases like the love spell gone wrong that I mentioned above, spell reversals are much more effective and necessary. While crafting a spell, it might be wise to consider how you would reverse the effects if the spell went wrong).
â Healing and Protection (wards, shields, cleansing)
Visualization
Youâll see a lot of mentions of things such as astral projection, shadow work, ceremonial magick, spiritwork, chaos magick, alchemy, etc. Most of these are paths can be studied independently with no worry. However, near everything uses, to some extent, manifestation, divination, and energy manipulation.Â
Iâd personally put an emphasis on energy manipulation, as it directly aids both spellwork and divination/psychic abilities. Energy manipulation is the equivalent of working out your magick muscles.
Specifically Spellcraft and Spellwork
If you want help starting spellcraft and spellwork, Iâve created explanations and topics of study for this, specifically:Most spells use these three components: concentration of intent, correspondences, and energy manipulation. Spells you find may also require specific actions to help project your energy into the universe for your spell/enchantment to be cast (hence the emphasis on energy manipulation). If you want to create your own spell, youâll want to consider all the symbolic correspondences, tools, and methods that will emphasize your intent for the spells. It could be a simple candle spell while chanting your intent or writing your intent, or it could be elaborate. Simple is best to start with so arenât distracted by mystique or caught up in figuring out unfamiliar territory.
My tips for spellcasting
Youâll want to completely comprehend the intent of the spell, focusing on it throughout the entire ritual, possibly visualizing the outcomes it could create, and doing this until you are satisfied with clearly communicating your desires. While youâre communicating your desires, you may naturally use energy manipulation and project a certain force, programmed with your intent, like writing an essay or how our brains work, sending out telepathic signals when we think. Correspondences are aids that keep focus on certain aspects of your spell, but, even as relatively optional aids, they have powerful effects, and misusing a symbol or using too much of a crystal/herb during spellwork can create dramatic changes to the outcome of your spell.
And if you want your spell to happen within a certain timeframe, put that into the spell, and project your intent. Youâll want to repeat your intent and connect all your ideas, just like an essay, but in a way your mind understands it. Anything that you want from a spell, you must make clear. No intent is implied, you must express what you want the spell to do: mentally, out loud, through writing, but it must be expressed into the spell in some manner. Simply expecting something while entering a magick space isnât enough. Youâll need to clearly state it in your head, on paper, out loud, and/or through your correspondences.
could you talk more about chronokinesis?! howâd you find out you had it? howâd you work to strengthen it?
Sure thing. I just finished a big personal project and should have more time to write on my blog.-Before I really got into chronokinesis, I was already involved in the paranormal as well as psionics such as aerokinesis, hydrokinesis, etc etc. I was already psychically inclined and worked with a strong foundation of my Clair- abilities (psychic visions, tastes, sounds, smells, etc) and precognition. -My chronokinesis has involved much more than the current accepted âtime perceptionâ portrays it. Yes, chronokinesis involves changing the perception of time such as slowing down or speeding up the progression of time, but the manipulation of what we know as time is far greater than just that. It may be going forward in time, backward in time, crossing over timelines, paradoxes/timeline creation, and much more Iâve yet to discover. Time is really complex, and after experiencing various ways it can be manipulated, Iâve come out with a much clearer understanding of what it is.-With that said, my first encounters of âtime perceptionâ (the speed part of time) came when I was younger. Just times when the world would slow down a bit (mindfulness, boredom, concentration), or when it would go too fast (primarily adrenaline, daydreaming, dozing). Simpler psychology. (Perception of time can also be manipulated through trances, spellwork, glamour, astral travel, etc)-Now, the complex chronokinesis started developing more when I got deeper in touch with my psychic abilities. I was forced to learn how to use chronokinesis because somehow I had (admittedly) gotten stuck in a big olâ heap of time loops and I was traveling all over the place. As with empathy, chronokinesis is not fun when you donât know how to control it. Also, at that time, the psi wiki was still accepting chronokinesis as a valid practice I believe (could be mistaking that community for another), and it was later that they changed their chronokinesis page to largely limit the ability. My form of chronokinesis is no longer as easily accepted, and it has been that way for a while. -âď¸The key I found to controlling time with chronokinesis was altered state of consciousness (ASC) and a solid foundation of precognition.âď¸ This is NOT for perception of time. This is primarily for going backwards into the past. Precognition helps because you can begin to differentiate and trigger a change in the direction of memories in your mind, so instead of the normal pastâ>future sequence, you can start to achieve a futureâ>past sequence, until you are capable of maneuvering through time in a less linear manner. -You can activate a chronokinetic reaction by increasing your time in trances/altered state of consciousness, and you should be able to see a distinct correlation between your trances and the frequency of time loops that occur later. I typically spent my bus time going into trances for this purpose. Without more experience, the time loops will not be that precise, so itâs better to let them happen where they will without forcing a time constraint and first learn how to trigger a time loop and how to prevent a time loop. It will not be precise at first, but thatâs okay. Youâre going backwards in time, and likely the worst case scenario is having to repeat a week of your life.-If the time loops get out of hand, ground yourself (basic energy work) and stop yourself from entering altered states of consciousness or falling into trances.-If youâd like methods regarding chronokinesis, my advice varies depending on what youâre trying to achieve. For specifics regarding methods, effects of chronokinesis, and how chronokinesis works, please ask about one of the following:-⢠Time perception (speed of time)⢠Paradoxes (creating a timeline)⢠Time loops (backwards in time)⢠Time Jumps (backwards or forwards in time)⢠Timeline Intersection (changing timelines)-You can also ask about a topic you know of that I may have forgotten to list or ask a specific question you have relating to time.
My essentials are skills that I feel I need to keep in shape. This is in order to keep my magick accessible, potent, and practical (even in improbable situations). And, please note, I do not claim these skills are necessary for everyone, but they have become âessentialsâ in my own craft due to how useful theyâve been for me.

Introduction
Psychic abilities allow you to perceive and comprehend energy before you, without having to poke around in the dark during manifestation (spellwork). In this sense, psychic abilities are more than just skills to predict the future and perform readings. Psychic abilities are foundations on which all manner of magick and the craft can grow into a deeper connection and be improved upon. Psychic abilities are about more than simply knowing. They give us the power and knowledge to make change, to adapt, to manifest, and to act. It is here that divination and manifestation cross over and fortify one another. Psychic abilities give a deeper understanding to the witch in order to cast for the outcome he or she wants or will want. This gives the witch the upper hand of precision, which can sometimes determine whether a spell is a success, a disaster, or a disappointment. Luckily, psychic abilities donât have to be natural, but can be learned and developed.
Intuition and Precognition
Intuition and precognition: A person might cast a money spell with a green candle and some visualization, but only get a dime the next day. But being able to comprehend the outcomes of a spell as youâre casting it gives you the ability to know ahead of time any faults in your spell and correct them before the spell is complete. Recognizing the erroneous future outcome through psychic means, a practitioner can cast in the moment, for example, that the money spell will work in two days instead of one, where you can give the spell time to brew you up a little more cash. Having this psychic connection with your spell gives you the advantage of communication, as to make the spell as efficient as possible. Itâs as if youâre reading the spell, like code, and fine-tuning it to meet your desires. The skills it takes to have this connection are intuition, precognition, and/or scanning.
Aura Viewing
Outside of intuition and precognition, aura viewing has proved increasingly powerful (clairvoyant/visual viewing). While it may not always be an issue for everyone, residual energy can have subtle to large effects on a spell. This is one of the reasons some witches opt to cleanse their items before any spell. Having the power to see auras gives you the ability to spot any residual or harmful energy that could negatively impact your spellwork, divination, or even your health (which will affect everything you do). You will be able to examine your aura, see the energy attached to your tools and ingredients, see energy in a place or person, and even see the energy of spells you cast.
-
Outside of interpreting what these auras mean, they can help you identify where energy is most coagulated and where it is thinnest, possibly what is enchanted, cursed, blessed, etc. You will see what is actively working on a metaphysical level, see spirits, and much more. This allows the practitioner to be more aware of what is happening on the metaphysical plane(s). Your sight might not detect everything 100% of the time, but it will certainly prove handy.
Clairsentience
Clairsentience, the psychic ability to feel and sense energy, has done wonders and works great alongside aura viewing and energy manipulation. Clairsentience is the ability that gives people âtinglesâ when they start to astral project or manipulate energy for a spell. Itâs the ability that makes people gasp when they return to their bodies, get possessed, or receive large amounts of energy. Itâs what makes cats feel magick and fae.
-
Why is this important for us as witches? It lets us be aware of energy that comes out of our bodies and the energy that comes in. If it werenât for clairsentience, I would not have felt the low presence of a curse enter my body, nor the feeling of it leaving. Clairsentience gave me the ability to act quickly when I needed to. It also allows me to feel the movement of my own energy system when using energy manipulation, rather than simply visualizing the movements. That way, I can know if my system is clogged or how much energy Iâm projecting to a more precise scale than simply assuming based on how tired or energized I feel. This can help control how potent a spell is and help conserve energy when youâre low.
-
Of course, there are other uses for clairsentience, such as psychic empathy and your typical precognition and divination (interpreting touch and feelings). Itâs important to note that precognition and the like arenât limited to clairvoyant methods like visions of the future, but other Clair- abilities can crossover with these skills, such as smelling (clairalience), hearing (clairaudience), feeling (clairsentience), tasting (clairtangence), remembering, and knowing (claircognizant) the future. The Clair- abilities are quite versatile, for they are the methods in which our minds convey near all manner of psychic information, be it from the past, present, or future. Itâs also important to know that psychic abilities are best controlled, rather than simply magnified to the highest extent. This is evident with sensitive empaths who sometimes require help to control their abilities. The key is control and balance. There is no positive extremity.
Energy Manipulation
I mentioned energy manipulation earlier, but didnât go into much detail. Energy manipulation has become a key focus in my craft, which may be rooted in my primarily secular practice (a craft not revolving around the worship or aid of spirits/deities). Iâve encountered witches who do not use energy manipulation primarily, but send messages and requests to spirits who perform the energy manipulation for the spell themselves. This is not how I practice, and it is not how many people practice (including those who work with deities). I wont teach the hows of energy manipulation in this post, but I will explain its importance, and leave further research into methods to the reader.
-
Energy manipulation is key to my spells and intentional use of psychic abilities (without tools). I take in energy and deconstruct it for psychic abilities, then my mind translates the information. I project energy into what are known as constructs to create spells. Energy manipulation is the practice of directing energy, to release bad energy, take in energy for a spell, release energy to finalize a spell, to create a metaphysical ward, etc. It is direct interaction with the metaphysical plane. This means I can use my own energy and direct it and program it as I please, and that direct contact is helpful when enchanting items so that the energy is as tied and potent to an item as it can be. Thinking back to clairsentience, you can feel the density of an enchantment you create and itâs stability.
-
Energy manipulation allows witches to direct the forces in which they are attempting to control. Inward, outward, expansion, contraction, etc. It can be used to gain awareness of your surroundings (expansion) or condense and fortify an enchantment (contraction). Important concepts to look into regarding energy manipulation are grounding and centering.
Meditation and Altered States of Consciousness
Since this post is already awfully long, I will combine the entries for meditation and altered state of consciousness (ASC). Meditation helps a witch gain concentration, which is needed in order to effectively comprehend psychic information and to effectively project his/her intent during manifestation. It allows more control over the witchâs mind, body, and emotions, so that unnecessary energy and distractions donât become a problem during their practice. Meditation is ultimately tied to altered states of consciousness. A term you may hear around chaos practitioners and Gnostics is gnosis, which, in context, refers to gnosis as an altered state of consciousness. This is the equivalent of an increased awareness of your surroundings and existence. Learning how to control ASC has felt, in my experience, like opening a cheat box for magick and the universe. It puts you in an awareness between the physical and metaphysical realm, a hyper-consciousness (or in some cases, less conscious) state of being. These mindsets have, to many people including myself, proven to ease access to metaphysical abilities such as divination and spellwork. ASC is often achieved through meditation-esque rituals and even hypnosis (I use meditative rituals to achieve this).
A simple combination of lavender and catnip in a cloth bag. If youâre allergic to lavender, coriander will work as a supplement.
The lavender (or coriander) works to provide peace and health, and the catnip is used to mentally prepare the mind for sleep. While the lavender works largely as a physical aid, the catnip works as a mental and attention aid.
Hold the satchel in your dominant hand and focus on your intent, and place the satchel under your pillow.
âââââââââââââ
If it is daytime, and itâs available, an item enchanted by the solar eclipse would add an extra boost.
Instructions
Place the item in a chalice.
Meditate with the chalice and imagine your intent flowing through your arms, your hands, your cup, and throughout the item.
Focus on the moon prevailing itâs power over the sun, and using that same power to aid you in your sleep.
After you have put forth your intent, remove the item, and glide it across your skin. Once you do this, place the item in your satchel of herbs.
This is an extensive beginnerâs lesson to the astral planes. It explains what they are, where they are, and how to get there. Advanced lessons will come later.

ââWhat?ââ
The astral planes are different realms outside of the mundane physical world. A plane is a realm of existence, a world. The exact definition varies between practitioners, however, I use a broad and practical definition of the astral in that it contains all planes outside of the physical plane. This includes heaven(s), hell(s), faery dimensions, the mental plane, the dreamscape, even an astral replica of our physical world (the real-time zone), and much more. Our spirits are metaphysical and spells function through the astral planes.
ââWhere?ââ
This is a complicated section, and it is not expected of you to fully understand the location of astral planes on first-read. Thus, practices are provided. The location of astral planes is unlike anything in the mundane, but it is key to the functionality of the astral and understanding what the astral actually is.Â
Collectively, the astral works as another dimension. You are familiar with the three dimensions of the physical world, up and down, left and right, and forward and back. The astral planes can be seen as an addition to this. Three-dimensionally, these planes may overlap with the physical, yet they differ in location by realms of existence comparable to layers on photoshop or pages in a journal.
Some astral planes will vary slightly or largely in âvibrationsâ (defined/explained in the next paragraph), which is in part due to the proximity of these planes. Heaven(s) and hell(s), for example, are significantly distant from each other, as their vibrations are polar. Heaven(s) have high vibrations, while hell(s) have low vibrations.
If you are unfamiliar with âvibrationsâ, these are the sensations given off by different energy, which I will further explain by using attunement as an example in the following paragraph. Attunement is the act of directly changing vibrations. Attunement is not the same thing as astral travel. Different vibrations exist on a single plane. The overall vibrational level of an astral plane determines its location. By using attunement, a practitioner is not necessarily traveling between astral planes, if anything, it can be compared to origami, with the paper as the astral plane.
To help understand, vibrational levels are changed when practitioners attune themselves to the energy of crystals. They will hold a crystal in hand and adjust their mind and spirit to match the energy of the crystal. This energy will be in the form of feelings, emotions. When vibrations are said to be raised, this refers to the full body sensation received when speaking in a high-pitched voice or when happy. When vibrations are said to be lowered, this refers to the sensations received when speaking in a low voice or when sad. The âvibrationsâ are not the emotions themselves, but the sensations. These vibrations, sensations, can be changed directly through attunement.
Vibrations are the âup and downâ of the astral dimension, while astral planes are realms of existence. âVibrationsâ determine the location of an astral plane.
Practice
These practices should help you better understand how location works in terms of astral planes if needed.
1. Practice attunement as I explained with crystals. Instead of crystals, you can also attune to different areas, like a school or your home, which each have their own unique energies, as well. Meditate in these areas and adjust your mind and spirit to match their energy. I recommend attunement so that you are able to better understand âvibrationsâ, which allow you to spatially interact with the astral dimension.Â
2. Practice aura viewing. Without astral projecting, this psychic ability will allow you to see astral realms closely tied to the physical. You will be able to see your spirit. Recognize these metaphysical worlds as separate but connected to the physical world.
ââHowââ
Your soul is already in an astral plane, as it is metaphysical. But in order to fully immerse oneself in the astral so they may travel, a practitioner typically uses astral projection. This can be done by a number of methods, however, the following preparation can be done before each of these.
First off, you will want to be in a comfortable position. You will be in this position for a while, and youâll want to avoid getting distracted during your work. It is recommended you do this with closed eyes. Commonly, practitioners will be lying down, however, some people choose to sit.
You are able to feel the location of your different body parts without looking at them. Focus on this. Meditate and become aware of your body. Shift your awareness around, focus more on your hands or your feet. Move your awareness up and down your arm. Become familiar with it.
Take the time to feel and energize this awareness. Differentiate between what is your awareness and what is your physical body. Look at them as separate and distinct bodies. Become comfortable with this, and clearly understand and feel the difference before moving on to the next step.
The next step would be one of the following from the list below of astral projection methods. This list is not exhaustive but covers some common ground. Do not follow along by moving any physical body parts during this. Small movements and twitches are okay.
The Rope Technique: Visualize a strong, sturdy rope above you. Feel the awareness of your arms, and visualize yourself moving your arms. Lift up your arms, reach for the rope, and pull yourself up. When your feet are hanging, you are free from your body. Move as you please. The farther away from your body, the less tension you will feel and the easier it will be to move.
The Ladder Technique: This method is essentially the same as the rope technique, but with a ladder, instead. This is an alternative to the rope because some beginner projectors have difficulty with the idea of pulling themselves up when it comes to arm strength. Arm strength does not actually affect the capability to use the technique, but it is the lack of faith and confidence that does. Instead, climb up a ladder.
The Hammock: Imagine yourself rocking left to right like a ship on water or a cradle. Gradually increase the intensity of the movements. At a high point, roll off to break the cycle. Stabilize yourself if needed, and you are free to move.Â
The Sinking Method: Imagine your body sinking downward, past your physical body. When your two bodies are completely separate, slowly move your arms, then your legs, and walk away.
A commonly asked question is âHow can I tell it worked?â or âHow do I know Iâm in the astral?â. My next astral lesson is over something called the real-time zone. In this astral plane, you can check yourself by walking around and noting what you find. When you get back into your body, you can walk over to what you found and see if it matches up with what you saw in the astral. I once found a candle misplaced while I was in the real-time zone, so I went back to my body, went to check it out, and it was exactly where I had seen it in the astral.Â
A good astral journey will be very vivid. This is not always the case for all journeys, however, the stronger ones will seem very clear and feel very real. The astral from my experience is relatively surreal, but it feels real. And besides that, sometimes you just know when you were/are astral traveling.Â
Some people will start to be able to see and sense their surroundings during projection (clairvoyance). When you return to your body, you may feel a large energy take hold of you or even gasp. These may not happen when you travel, but if you HAVE experienced those then itâs likely to have been an astral journey.Â
Possible symptoms include a change in heart rate, buzzing or static (I have not personally experienced this, but have heard accounts of it), actual vibrations or buzzing feelings, and clear sounds of entities that arenât from the physical realm (clairaudience). Also, if you truly feel your physical body and your astral body as two distinct, separate bodies during the travel, then almost certainly you have astral traveled.Â
Nothing works!
For some people, astral projection comes naturally, and their first time projecting only takes a few minutes. For some, it takes hours. If you are not a natural, then it will most likely take many attempts and a series of trial and error. If you havenât successfully projected, that doesnât mean you canât. Once you start successfully projecting and traveling, it will all become easier.
Possibly you are looking for a physical sensation when feeling your astral body that you just wonât get from the astral. In which case, focus less on feeling your astral body to move it, and instead focus more on visualizing your movements.
Do not try and force yourself to be unaware in your physical body. To some extent, you will be aware of both your physical and astral body while projecting and traveling. If you focus too much on completely eliminating your awareness of your physical body, you will be too distracted to separate and focus on your astral body.Â
Make sure to drink plenty of water, meditate outside of astral projection, eat fruits and veggies, and practice energy manipulation. For some people, it helps to be slightly tired, but not so much that youâre going to fall asleep to get the right mindset for projection.
Alongside this, there are aids to astral projection. Many crystals and herbs are available, as well as spells you can perform, enchantments you can undertake, and spirits that can help (be wary with spirits).
Crystals that aid in astral projection/travel include moonstone, howlite, aqua aura quartz, labradorite, jet, opal, fluorite, tourmalated quartz, malachite, calcite, staurolite, and ametrine.
Herbs that aid in astral projection/travel include mugwort, poppy, rowan (wood), frankincense, ginger, comfrey, and jasmine.Â
Herbs that are medically dangerous and not recommended for beginners include mandrake, monkshood (wolfâs bane), and belladonna.
Spirits that could help you must be completely trusted. Donât let just anyone do this for you. If you are just starting out in spirit work or witchcraft/magick and think you know what youâre doing, I wouldnât recommend this. Someone else might say otherwise, but this is because Iâm playing it safe here and donât want to be responsible for anyone getting hurt. That being said, strong spirit companions are able to assist you. It is said, though this part I cannot verify, that this is especially true for dryads. Working with spirit companions requires other knowledge and lessons than this one.
If you have a specific problem with astral projecting and travel that you would like me to address, send me an ask and Iâll get to it as soon as possible.
