When I started writing it, I was heartbroken; reeling from a divorce and quelling my pain through a combination of escapism, denial and substance abuse. I also had begun navigating dating for the first time (in a very long time) and was coming to terms with/discovering my own beliefs and boundaries around monogamy. The album progresses as my life did: I climbed out of the rubble, I found love, I connected with ancestry and ritual, and I began the slow process of relinquishing the hold that so many vices have had on my life.
