Hi I’m Gabby, here’s my version of Quirin’s letter to Varian that we rudely didn’t get to see.

Son,

I don’t have long. I fear I won’t be able to say what I need to before I’m lost to this.

None of this is your fault, Varian. Not the rocks, nor what is happening to me now.

I wish I’d told you more. I’m regretting it deeply and that only makes the pain worse. You deserved a father that was honest with you, one that would’ve guided you better than I did. But know all I’ve done was for you, and all I ever wanted was to protect you from what I feared would eventually reach you. I’m sorry.

I am proud of you. I always have been, even though I’ve failed so many times to say it. It was never you that failed. It was never about you making mistakes. I just couldn’t bear losing you, too.

You are brilliant, Varian, and I’d recognize that mind anywhere. You’re braver than you know and kinder than you realize. I’m sorry I found it easier to silence you than accept you’ve grown up. It’s my fault I didn’t trust you more.

Whatever happens next, I need you to know this above all else. I love you. More than anything in this world. And I won’t let it lose you before you can save it.

I wish I had more time. Know I am not afraid. I am only afraid of leaving you alone.

Varian for sure has homeschool trauma. Quirin pulled him out of school because “it’s what’s best for him” and now Varian has no idea how to socialize and has crippling loneliness and attachment issues. Why do you think he became best friends with Rapunzel and Cass immediately?

Like I love Quirin but you can’t convince me he didn’t just let Varian stay in his lab 24/7 and think “yup my kids going to come out so well-adjusted.”
