Photoshop crashing ain't stopping me
Hugo's early days in Donella's group. On one mission, he 'interfered', wanting to help, but it didn't end on a good note. After getting reprimanded by Donella, Hugo hides and is found by Cyrus.
"Thank you for the pain 'cause it got me going viral"- Your Idol
Varian blended in with the crowd.
Hugo is a lil sht and thinks he's funny
Varian is just tired
Cat Tongue ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
Apparently, the video I was trying to download is still processing, so here's this instead.
Quick sketch
I had an 'episode' idea of where the group is ambushed by men with the one leading them being a girl around Hugo's age. And yeah, it's going where ya'll think this is going. But the girl ain't an ex. No no.
Well, she thinks she's Hugo's ex. Hugo just sees her as the girl he fooled for a mission Donella commissioned him.
It's a Stalyan Esq episode.
How does Hugo get out of this after being separated from the group and they are who-knows-where because, of course he went with her just so the others wouldn't be hurt?
Odysseus style. More correctly. The Epic Cut song Appetite.
Just wanna share my thought process on the current set of visuals I made for the vat7k soundtrack headcanons cuz I had lots of fun composing the illustrations for each member!
So when I said "Live Again" is like Varian's version of "Wind In My Hair" well I had every intention to match the visual to that motif. So his pose in this visual pays homage to his most triumphant moment back in "Make You Proud" except instead of facing to the left (aka towards Corona), he is facing to the right to signify wanting to go out there beyond Corona.
And the setting is in the exact place Rapunzel made the decision to go over the walls of Corona from the pilot special (and yes he is standing in the exact wall she did to hammer home the parallels).
I made sure every single one of them are looking up towards the sky, a subtle way to unify them as a set. Something something "we are from different walks of life but we look up at the same sky" something if you will
I noticed how Yong, Nuru and Varian's current songs are "I Want" songs—while only Hugo's song is a turning point song number.... cuz he doesn't know what he really wants at the beginning and his song is him finally asking questions and reflecting with himself
And I also imagined the "I Want" songs for the three were sang prior to meeting each other while Hugo's is after he meets and spends time with them—because prior to team radical, Hugo wouldn't be looking up the same way they do otherwise but in this case, he does cuz he met really kind people like them and starts to slowly see glimpses of what they see too
I just thought that was pretty neat, but anyway! that's my yap, thank you for comin to my ted talk <3
Re-blogging from a sudden thought bubble. I imagined if VAT7k were to be, like, picked up I can imagine Hugo only being on duets or back-up-comments in songs. Kinda like Alastor is in Hazbin, he doesn't exactly have a solo song but sings in duets or groups.
So things like his and Varians "You're obnoxious/ I hate you song." Maybe a group song with Varian's fam on his mother's side. His on the side making a few comments here and there.
And then finally, Hugo's solo song in Ingvaar. Which is- what you explained- he doesn't have an 'I Want Song' but the turning point to everything he has ever known. Things he taught he wanted until it was superficial compared to his time being with the group.
I swear, the concept of Vat7k has so much potential.
OMG THIS!!! 100% YES!!! YOU GET IT YOU GET IT!!
I think the "less is more" storytelling approach work wonders when portraying/handling a character like Hugo. Someone that was established to us as an emotionally guarded and calculated person that hides so much of who he really is behind a mask/persona.
His character thrives at blending in the crowd and not drawing too much (unwanted) attention to himself. And him staying as a back up vocalist or only be present on duets in most of the music numbers like you said perfectly displays that personality so well!
It tells us so much about his character adequately enough: (e.g) That he's the type of guy who gives his quick two cents on the matter and that's that—because he wants to show he has something to offer/contribute on the table (to feel warranted to be in the room in the first place because he is all about efficiency) while still wanting to keep people at arm's length around him doing so—which also tells us that he avoids forming connections beyond transactional endeavors as much as possible.
Like I can imagine most of his verse in songs lean more on being neutral on the topics to show us that he tends to be indifferent on things, because at the end of the day he knows he's just here looking out for himself, like he always had all his life. (until team radical came around ofc)
And those lil verse stepping stones just further elevates why his eventual solo song is framed as a big deal as it should because it is for his character! For the first time, he is at center stage, speaking up. For the first time, he is not just looking out for himself, he starts thinking of others too. For the first time, he starts hoping there is a future for someone like him. For the first time, he starts believing he can be good too because his newfound friends see something in him that he couldn't on his own before.
and AGHHH it's so good, its so fucking good... vat7k, the peak potential you can offer is so palpable like truly.

UGHHH, YES!!!
I have noticed when making my little animatics or short comics, he’s always the most fun I have fun making because of the nuance to this character. He may be someone’s DND character and a concept to a cancelled comic (VAT7K) but because of what we were given of the plot and the character’a personality, Hugo will have the most flaw and so in time, growth to his character. Guess why he’s my favorite out of the concept.
