perhaps she'd been staring for too long at the mirror in front of her, wondering if it could possibly be some sort of portal, or something similar to the mirror of erised.. but as she continued to watch her own reflection, she noticed another form behind her, taking her eyes away from the mirror long enough to see that salazar was really there behind her, eyebrow wide at her friend.. "salazar? what are you doing here?"

it was.. unsettling, to say the least, looking around the maze at all the faces or, lack there of. merlin, rowena wanted to run from this place as quickly as she could. until she saw a familiar face amongst the crowd, relief washing over her. "sylvie!" she called, moving through the faceless creatures to reach her niece's side. "are you alright?"

@youllalwaysbemyporcelain for sylvie slytherin ( prompt 9 - this portion of the maze is full of people except their faces are blank, no eyes, nose or mouth. it feels like they’re staring at you anyway, slowly walking toward you wherever you go.

“helena, my darling, you need to go.” rowena’s heart jumped into her throat the moment she saw her daughter, feeling her stomach twist. she didn’t know what she was capable of at the moment, and the last thing she wanted was her daughter to see her like this. “i’m not myself right now, and you need to go, find somewhere safe and stay there till morning.”

“you can’t be here--” rowena’s wand was raised as heron came into view, her control was already waning. the fight with hunter leaving her shaken to a point that she could barely keep her wand from wavering as it stayed raised towards heron. “go-- i mean it. before we have to fight, before you turn this into something it isn’t. you need to leave.” she hated to feel this kind of anger, it was so against everything rowena stood for, but she couldn’t shake the rage that wanted to lash out, that wanted to control everything within her.

“salazar.” rowena’s eyes narrowed at the sight of her former friend, of a man that she had once revered and trusted. oh how things had shifted in such a short amount of time. “please don’t tell me you’re going to continue with this feigned memory loss when half the city has been completely altered by magic. you have to know something isn’t right here.” she didn’t trust his word for a moment, not when she knew him as well as she once did. maybe godric might have believed it but rowena would do all she could to prove this was an act. || @papcrrings​ for salazar slyhterin

“it’s rather cold out here, i know, but i think i’d prefer being a little cold over getting a headache from all of that music.” rowena was never the type to enjoy parties like this, having always found a way to disappear unnoticed after a while. she’d much rather explore, having wandered long enough to find her way outside, debating grabbing one of her friends to join her in the maze. “sorry, do i have something on my face?” rowena looked back at the other, seeing them stare at her face, eyebrow raised behind the mask, though she was sure it couldn't be seen. || @mvsicinthedvrk​ for orpheus

“i can’t say this is something that i have ever seen before,” rowena said, looking around the city, having seen so many people walking around with many powers they couldn’t seem to control. this was not something she ever expected to see in this city... “excuse me, i’m trying to understand what’s going on here, have you also been affected by whatever it is that’s caused, this--” she gestured to the streets around them. || @recklcssabandon​ for benedict bridgerton

rowena wasn’t the fighter of their family. but when needed, she knew how to duel, when two people were throwing spells back and forth, something that she could predict and defend against. but these monsters? oh she was not at all prepared for what these monsters could do. spells did almost nothing, and soon enough rowena felt herself being thrown off her feet by one of those werewolves, falling as she heard helga’s familiar voice. “i-- i don’t know.” rowena muttered, barely pushing herself up. “we can’t stay here.”
