Letter to My Writeblr Friends

I have been so behind on everything. I just keep sending out all kinds of writeblr asks and letting my own pile up as I ignore the very stuff I wanted to be a part of out of laziness. At least as long as I send out asks, I feel better about everyone else having their fun.

Thank you for tagging me in games and/or sending me asks. If I don't return MAGM, TbTT, or STS asks, I swear I am not ignoring you. The answer might be complicated and I got lazy. Sometimes I respond weeks later.

As for WBW, sometimes I just don't have an answer because my stories aren't fantasy-based enough for the unique question (which you should probably take as a compliment lol) but I always send out asks for you to work on your stories. Actually, if I don't usually send you one and you see this and want more asks, feel free to let me know you want one and I will gladly send one. I love seeing the writings of others.

Hullo and happy STS! What type of dressing style can be found in your wip?

The great thing about writing a story set in the 1860s is that I get to do a ton of really fun research about midcentury Victorian-era fashion! All those cool hoopskirts and bow ties and boots with teeny tiny buttons. A fun fact is that in the mid-19th century and onward people started making fabric dye that was much more long-lasting and colorful, and so if you were rich (like Marta) or just generally fabulous you could wear amazingly eye-searing brightly colored dresses and such.

Another fun fact about women’s clothing was that in the 1860s woman did absolutely wear drawers/pantaloons under their dresses, but they were not closed in the middle! This was because if you needed to use the bathroom in a big hoopskirt you were going to have a heck of a lot of trouble dealing with underwear.

As for the fellas, guys in the 19th century wore pretty a straightforward suit/cravat/waistcoat combo, which as we all know is very sexy, particularly when coupled with suspenders. Most poorer people owned very few clothes and made their own or invested in ones that would last like forever. Our Hero, Andras, is a Starving Artist who only owns one pair of trousers. He sends them to the laundry every Monday and spends the day in his nightshirt. Adorable.

Hullo and happy STS! If Rion and Aidan lived nowadays what woudl they do for a living?

That’s tough! I feel like Riona would be the weird lady of a small town who made the best pickles but you could only buy them from her at the farmer’s market or harangue her into donating them to the local elementary school for a fundraiser. No one would be quite sure how she made enough money to get by but the rumors are she deals pot.

Aidan’s dream job would be a literature professor, no joke, but they probably would actually be a forever grad student.

It happened gradually -- people tried to fight it, and continue to fight it to this day!

Hullo and happy WPS! Did any of your OCs have an "aha!" moment this week? If yes, which one and why?

No so much an “Aha!”, as it is an “Oh shit!” moment. I’m barely reworking Ch. 4, but it’s an important one, because it’s the moment Fredrick realizes he’s not as loyal to the Queen as he thought he was, as well as when Sloane finally learns she isn’t human after all. Everything only gets worse for them from this point on, which from a writing point of view is going to be really fun ;)
