I'm starting a raw food diet on monday and I'm very excited. I am confident that I will be able to sustain it, but have recently been getting worried about bread. I love bread and think it will be hard to go without for awhile. Do you have any tips to get through it? Or any raw bread recipes, if those exist?
Hi .. good luck with going raw.. let me know how you get on.. There are breads made from sprouted wheat or other seeds and crackers "cooked" using a dehydrator or an oven on a low heat with the door open (laying it on a rock in the sunshine if you are lucky enough to live in that kind of climate!) . Keeping food still enzyme rich while producing a more cooked consistency is about temperature control.
I went through a stage of making flax crackers and of buying them in Wholefoods although a lot of of small shops and health food shops in the UK stock them now. I have an allergic reaction to lots especially if it has been allowed to ferment) and I found most of the commercial ones too salty. Experiment to see what is good for you. In any event the commercially produced raw crackers give you some ideas of what you can make.
Giving up something is about finding something to take its place. I used lettuce leaves to make wraps on occasion. Think about when you eat bread and what you could eat instead at those times. Planning is essential when you start because otherwise you tend to fall back into old patterns.
I will look out a good bread recipe and post it but there are loads around .. Just google raw bread and you will find them.. Never be afraid to play with raw recipes . I never follow any recipe .. even my own (lol!) I am always experimenting..
