Captain’s log, stardate 202005.23... 26/365 Part one. Written by Ray Noble with production by Andre Fischer, Natalie Cole’s rendition of “The Very Thought of You” from her “Unforgettable” has been one of my favorites so much that I even bought the CD single. While her father’s version is masterful, there’s something about this version that grabbed my attention. Perhaps it was the arrangement, the production, or the performance? Whatever it is, I can hear this song over and over again.

Midnight, the Stars and You (1934)

In my opinion, this is one of the most romantic songs of all time. Additionally, the smooth vocals of South African crooner Al Bowlly coupled with the "champagne" sound of Ray Noble's Orchestra created an eerie yet perfect counterbalance after the suspenseful climax of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
