I don’t wanna be that person, but last week I signed up for a gym and in such a short time it’s already changed my life.
Story below cut.
The reason I signed up wasn’t a good one. When I came back from holidays, my mum said something about my weight and then I felt horrible because I realised a bunch of my biggest clothes didn’t fit me. I ate a lot on holidays but I didn’t weigh myself so I didn’t know I put on 5kg.
Anyway, it’s expensive as hell but I decided I’ve had enough of listening to people comment on my weight and I’m gonna do something about it. Also because my hips and knees and ankles have been cracking for years and idk if that’s something to be worried about.
So I went and signed up and this week I’ve been going to the gym after work every day. It’s been a little haven. I don’t have anyone breathing down my neck or commenting on my body, and even though I don’t feel any joy from exercise, I do feel the satisfaction of knowing I’m getting stronger.
It’s become a little buffer between my long commute and getting home. It’s a time for me to just be me and relax. Usually I go from high stress work to semi-stressful home, but now I have a bit of peace in the middle.
Even when I’m dreading going to work the night before, I feel okay when I remember I can go to the gym after. And when I’m at work and feeling tired, I think about my little pocket of peace and feel a flicker of motivation. I never thought I’d actually like going to the gym, but here I am.
Well, I hope it lasts but this is bringing a bit of positivity into my life.
