Re: WIP game, I'm especially interested in 3 and 7, and a bit confused by 8. Can you talk a little about them?
3 is my only well titled wip—it's an au where mandy anders (of i am not starfire infamy) is explicitly dick's biological daughter, and explores the weird fuzzy familial dynamics that brings into play. also features shawn tsang bc a) i love her, b) thematic parallels re culture and immigration and what not
7 is about bruce being dumb and aging and dealing w losing alfred and trying to push away his kids when theyre like. youre going to die and we do not have a bat-plan b. i have about 200 words of vague outlines and absolutely fuck all else written

While Jason’s memory of Catherine is tinged with nostalgia and love, Catherine was not a good mother.
Catherine neglected Jason for most of his life. She spent the majority of her life high or searching for a high which means, whether she meant it or not, Jason was second to chasing her addiction. The relationship was skewed with Jason acting as the parent/caretaker instead of the child.

Talia being a Timelord - or maybe a daughter of Time Lord, I remember them having like, regeneration - is superb idea, actually. (I'm talking about your tags on the post about Talia in Lost days). I dunno why Ra's would be using Lazarus Pit instead - maybe he doesn't want to lose his current personality and memories? It would also explain how he was killed several times but doesn't stay dead (shhh i don't read a lot of comics i don't know any official reasons). Even as a joke,thank you for idea!

Wow you seem to know a lot about different writers and sales and stuff - do you follow any blogs on that, or could you recommend any sources of information?

For sales as far as I know there’s pretty muchonly Comichron. I believe their usual monthly and yearly figures are onlyfor comic retailer numbers (i.e. the people who sell floppies). But theypublish annual reports that include bookstores like Barnes and Noble, who sellthe collected editions, and digital.
Diamond does provide industry statistics as well (and I dobelieve they are Comichron’s primary source) but I find Comichron easier tonavigate and more thorough. I haven’t been to Diamond in a while but I believethey only do the Top 100 while Chomichron gives you numbers for every book thatcame out in a given month. They also have some really cool random statisticslike “Most Comic Books Ordered in a Single Month” (Aug. 2016, start ofRebirth) and “Least Comic Books Ordered in a Single Month” (Jan. 2011, New52started in Aug. later that year).
The only thing that frustrates me is Comichron’s “SalesBy Title” section. There are only a handful of titles there and I find whatdata is provided to be… useless. I feel like it should be a list of titlesand if I click on say Nightwing I should be directed to a chronological accountof how many issues the title sold each year. Then, maybe, I should be able toclick on a year and be able to see the monthly figures. They have the monthlyfigures, so I don’t know why this isn’t an option. It seems like an obvious oneto me and it would be the most useful tool. It may be a lot of workfor Comichron to get that coded though and I think the site is pretty small.
As it is, if I want to try to track sales I have to do a lotof clicking, ctrl+F, and enter all that data into a spreadsheet where I canspit it out as a graph (I have these by the way… maybe I should post some…)
But the hard numbers and statistics are just one part of it.There’s all kinds of other variables to look at. Comichron helps with some ofthat. For instance, they distinguish between units and dollars. For example, inApril, Batman #69 was the fifth highest selling book by units with 88,666. Butit was 8th in terms of dollars made because Web of Venom Cult of Carnage (wow,that’s a mouthful) which was number 9 in units sold with 77,722, cost a dollarmore. So even though it sold fewer copies, it made more money and ranked 5th bydollars. (By the way, unless I specify otherwise when I talk about numbers I’malmost always using the units numbers).
There are tons of other variables though. And I like tryingto figure things out even though it’s impossible.

As for writers and artists and stuff, I really just payattention when I read, especially when I particularly like or dislikesomething, and I have a Twitter which I use exclusively to follow comicsprofessionals (though I’ve been really lax about checking it for the lastseveral months). But they’re usually pretty easy to find. Most of them all follow each other too so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
For comics news, well, I usually get it from the Twitteraccounts but I like to check Comic Book Resources (CBR) occasionally. Mostlywhat I do is just google something I want to update myself on and click thenews tab. I’m not super interested in reading too much of a comic reporter’spersonal opinion until I get a general sense of things so I avoid places likeBleedingCool or io9 until I have a grasp of whatever’s happening. And I don’tbother with reviews of single issues much at all but never before I’ve read anissue myself.
My biggest exception to this is the ComicPOP YouTube channeland the Weekly Pull on EligibleMonster’s Twitch (also available later on their youtube channel and as a podcast but it airs live on Twitch every other Tuesday). Ihaven’t watched either in a few months, though. Idisagree with Sal on A LOT of stuff but I find his content delightful andinformative even when we don’t see eye to eye. The Weekly Pull includes, Sal (and often his wife Tiffany) from ComicPOP,Benny from Comicstorian, Rob from Comics Explained, and Joel from CapedJoel (links included for your convenience, the only one I really watch is ComicPOP and occasionally Comics Explained).
They’re starting to get some attention from DC (especiallythe first two) so sometimes comics professionals will give interviews for theirchannels.

3. what work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
probably rowing in eden! i had such a fun time writing it, and since humor isn't really my strong suit, i was really happy with how it turned out. i also really liked the way i characterized everyone, and overall i just thought it turned out well.
18. the character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
i've been having a truly horrendous time writing bruce this year. i genuinely don't think i've been able to write more than a few paragraphs with him, and i haven't been able to get into his head at all. tbh, bruce is probably the reason i haven't finished the most recent chapter of an accumulation of anguish, lol.
20. which work of yours have you reread the most?
i don't reread very often, so this is an easy one! i've actually read take a load off like five times this year, because i very much wrote it for myself, and i just find it very indulgent and enjoyable to revisit.
